watching '99 ascent with pantani coming back like a hurricane is a must before tomorrow:

hard stage tomorrow so the record of the climb is out of reach(not even bruseghin and piepoli could beat it in the beautiful 2007 giro in an itt)

i expect a strong omega pace on the climb and rigo to take the win. hopefully quintana and aru will emerge though. and basso of course :)

oh man, great video....also, Chepe Gonzales is in the video!!!! Great Colombian climber from back in the day (I think he won a stage in 1999, along with the mountains classification).

i dont think he has incentive to attack on tomorrow's stage. in fact, he can play completely defensive from now on, and do thw MTT well. quintana is still 3 min down.

I think he is referring to Uranium 235 - a fissile isotope of Uranium. i.e. Uran is going to go "nuclear"...:)

Arredondo climbing better than any of his non-GC rivals at the moment, probably will be allowed to go ahead if he wants. Pozzovivo might have a say though. I also am not counting out Uran; just because he's wearing the leader's jersey doesn't mean he won't try to widen the gap to Quintana.

I really want to see Quintana win. Don't know if will happen, but if he wants to win he's got to start pulling back time. If he is able to pull time at all out of Uran it won't be in big chunks, he'll have to do it little by little, so he needs to start tomorrow. So far all the time gaps have been created by tt's and crashes (except for Pozzovivo's one attack), we need some racing in the mountains...Please.

Quintana is not going to win. No way he will be able to perform at his best in these kind of condition.

Pozzo would be the logical choice, but i think Arredondo indeed does have a good chance for the stage.

I'm really looking forward to this. Normally I try to keep my expectations low so I won't be disappointed in case nothing happens but right now I'm pumped up for this last weekend and the following week.

I'm looking forward to this almost as much as I'm looking forward to spending tomorrow morning riding up hills in heavy rain.

When you watch the Pantani show it seems like he rides on an almost flat parcours while the others are climbing.

Very good, rather discuss this stage then watch today's. :p

I'm going to let the fanboy in me do the predicting for this one. Quintana to begin his domination.

This is the least likely stage for Quintana to win, because

1 He was ill yesterday so unlikely to have fully recovered.
2 This is the closest mountin to his crash
3 The altitude is very low.

The Hitch made an excellent point earlier in some other forum and I cannot for the life of me find it. But the basic premise was that OPQS should drill the pace these next few days to put Quintana, who could Fkc Uran at some point; under huge pressure in the mesntime.

Brilliant.

Oh and I forgot to say; even though this is the view of Netserk who is the greatest on these forums; I would disagree with. This talk of high altitude/medium altitude is BS IMO. Maybe when they are 9 years old but not now.

What do you mean with that post?

A breakaway will conquer the stage while the GC riders will be marking one another until Pozzo bursts in rage, escapes towards the finish line & gains a minute. Rigo keeps the Magglia Rosa, Evans begins to wheel-suck & Quintana gets a bit better, but he appears to have a master plan in motion......

Perfect prediction....
To the bolded: Certainly. That´s why it was so important that he lost the lead in the TT. If that didn´t happen, we would be back to TdF-2011 when riders literally rode backwards.
Clinic or not, I don´t like to see such dull racing like that (or the Giro 2012 where riders attacked with less than 500 meters to go, and skipped racing in a transition stage) ever again...

Who was Pantani's teammate there who did such a great job with getting him back?

The last one with him should be Marco Velo whe he was still a climber, in his later years he was a leadout man for Zabel and Petacchi at Milram. Inbetween he was also a descent time trialist.

I don't understand, Evans never held the yellow that year, and therefore never controlled the race and made it boring, as you suggest.
