does this prove tht jrod is not good enough in this giro?

We have to wait till Montecopiolo. If Matthews finishes in the top 10, it means it was a climb with the big ring. Purito can do that, but he's not the best at.

I think he's close to his top form, but not yet at his peak. Normally he will be in the third week, considering his injuries and the time it takes to fully recovering from that.

I don't reckon the BMC guys will be too happy about cadel inching in front of uran. Will be a lot of work in the 2nd week for those 6 seconds!

Winner Anacona lost 3:33 minutes, guess he won't repeat another top-20 on GT like in Vuelta 12'. :(

Duarte got me mad too, but 48 seconds isn't the end of the world.

Rabottini looking good to give a show this year, 17th today. :)

Sounds like excuses. No sprinter in the top 15 apart from Matthews and about 12 of them have finished at least top-20 in GTs.

Murito was not good enough in the last straight. That's all.

When Purito wins on a climb, there's no Matthews in the top 10. Difficult to understand?

I'm saying he's not at his top level yet. But on these kind of climbs, he's chance of losing is bigger then of winning it.

How is Weening climbing? Can he keep up on the longer, tougher climbs in stages 8 & 9? OGE will be hoping so.

If so that helps BMC for week 2. Anyhow Evans will take every second that presents itself if he is strong enough.

Pozzovivo did a really nice job to come back from that little holdup and finish at the head of the pack.

Nah. I think we'll see either Evans or Uran in pink at the end of stage 8.
What should we make of samu's poor day in the saddle?

saving himself to serve Evans better in the third week, i do not know, but there is not really much point for him to be up there today.

Gutsy ride by Brambilla, attacking on a wet and tricky descent.

The best Purito knows how to handle 400m (where Moreno parked) at 6-7%, instead he had no kick in the legs whatsoever. He just didn't have it and it doesn't bode well for this weekend.

The wind was also really strong. So it's difficult if you start your sprint with 350 m to go.

However, he's still not at his best. That's a fact. However, Quintana who had to let a gap twice, also didn't made the best impression. Should be interesting to see next week.

Hard to tell what will happen week 3. But next week looks to me like a battle between Uran, Evans & Quintana. I don't make much of Quintana not being in the placings here - actually on the contrary I'm impressed he finished where he did on this kind of stage. Good tactical nous

this giro is about the third week, every GC contender wants to keep his best until them. So there is still time to fine tune the condition. I am not too worried so far. How did Basso look on this stage?

I think he looked decent, considering he's never been really competitive on this climbs, even when he was at his best. He was very careful in hitting the last descent in the first 8-10 positions of the bunch, and that was probably the most problematic part of today's stage for him, much more than the climb.

When you are Evans age this is right. But at Quintana's age he should not be 'fine tuning' his form just now. His form should already be very close to peak. At young age you can hold peak form longer. But as others have said I think today was more about Quintana using energy to maintain position rather than any sign of his form. He is a lightweight climber after all.

The concern for 'old man' Evans will be how he goes in the ITT. We know more about him after stages 8 & 9. But today was a good sign for him.
