Swift must have led for the last 4-5km, not a great tactical ride by him.

Probably didn't care that much. It was going to be a Sky win no matter what.

How come? 3rd is a good result.

Maybe a Lux native can tell us how the final played out. Christian?

I followed it on the radio, every 20 minutes or so they gave an update. I heard the last 4 or so updates. First, Andy was alone in the front with 30 seconds advantage, he had been alone for 20km already. A group of 10 was chasing him, with all the professional riders. Gastauer and Drucker were doing the work in this group. The next update was that the four Trek riders were in the lead together with Gastauer, at around 1 minute Kirsch, Thill and Zangerlé from Leopard Development, and further back Drucker. Then it was only the Schlecks and Gastauer. At the finish, Fränk had a 5 second advantage to Gastauer, with Andy right behind him.

See how much more interesting the Portuguese nationals can be when they move them away from Pataias?

Shame to see no national jersey at A Volta, but more visibility in bigger races for the jersey can only be a good thing. First time in the WT since Manuel Cardoso signed for Footon?

Yep, and first time in the Tour since Acacio da Silva in 1986!!!

I would have preferred Machado to win because he will surely be in some breakaways but either way the jersey will be visible for most of the season instead of during 2 weeks in August so i am happy.

Also Machado had 2:30 minutes of advantage over a 9 man group with 30k to go and 2 minutes with 30 minutes of racing left. So Oliveira's attack must have been pretty strong because only Sergio Sousa was able to stay anywhere near him.

Surprised the commentators had Swift as such a strong favourite for the sprint. Kennaugh isn't a bad sprinter and he'd softened Swift up on the inclines.
