Gutted for Cav, chance of a lifetime to wear yellow gone in a second. Majorly sucks for him. Really hope nothing broken.

Gutted for him too but looked 100% his fault to me.

You misspelled... Hopefully out of the Tour and season... Couldn't happen to nicer guy  One a-hole less in the race.

Quoted just for record.

Great result!

Tears from Eurosport guys already started, will be best part of this tour to hear them crying everyday.

I absolutly can't stand Cavendish, but I wish injuries on no one.
It's his own fault, so I don't feel sorry for him.

Worst possible ending to a nice first stage.

Unfortunately it's nigh on impossible to avoid crashes on a flat first stage of a race with so much riding on it. Everybody still has something to protect and unless they put the finish on absolutely featureless motorway-width roads there will always be too many riders for the space needed. All the big guns are trying to be up near the front, all the sprinters have full support teams, and really, the only time they've managed to avoid crashes was the puncheur finish in Plumelec in 2008 - but even that isn't a solution since crashes made a mess of the Mont-des-Alouettes stage in 2011.

Cav's fault.

He leaned on Gerrans' shoulder.

But still pretty awful to come down on your home turf.

I had him as the stage winner.

Looks like a bad year for the Brits in sports though.:)

This is great for Kwiatkowski by the way :)

And for Terpstra, Martin etc. Some good attacking riders that will get released.

It was all Cav's fault

That's how I saw it. Gerrans in front, Cav leans in trying to pass and crashed. Phil and Paul are looking for someone else to blame though.

Froome perhaps looking for both yellow AND green ?

Or maybe just had the good luck to be way to the left side of the road when the crash happened and did have to slow down?

Jens was amazing & so were the fans, never seen anything like it before.

Last 50km's kinda sucked though and the crash ruined the sprint ... :(

Was really hoping to see that sprint go down without the crash, kittel v cavendish v griepel v sagan and with everyone else, would have been amazing.

That was nasty.

Kittel is a beast. That was impressive. Cav and Gerrans were leaning on each other and it looked like Cav got squeezed when Coquard came up on his left
