Not sure what the decision was. Valverded didnt attack, he just followed and thought Quintana will be on his wheel. When he wasnt what was Valverde to do? Come back and babysit Nairo? (especially since at that stage he was still with Contador and Froome).

If Piti was allowed to increase the pace earlier or attack (something he was clearly able to do), Quintana would crack with 2km to go instead of 400m.

Exactly....

damian13ster can you please stop with your quintana moaning, everybody here know you dont like him,no need to emphasize that...

I am just responding to users who suggest he chose 12seconds +bonuses loss to his rivals. Nothing more. Of course I dont like the guy, not after Giro.
I am not a big fan of Froome either but have no problem admitting he is one of the best (if not the best at the moment) GT rider in the world until somebody actually beats him.

So no, my opinion is not personal. It is just what I am seeing infront of my own eyes. He got dropped, and saying otherwise is just lying to yourself.
Can he win this race still? Of course, and I told that repeatedly in my previous posts.
Is he a main favorite to win? No, because he is worse in ITT and he got dropped on the climb.

Quite logical thinking, isnt it? I am not a fanboy, and thats why it seems I am bashing Quintana because everyone is looking at the guy through rose-colored glasses. One of the most overrated riders (yes, he is in top 5 if not top 3 climbers but no evidence of him being the best, yes, he is a GT contender but no evidence of him being the best or even top 3).

He was an idiot I think. If he had waited, he could have very well won the stage.

No he couldn't. He just didn't had the legs to beat Valverde.

However, he would have finished in the same time, perhaps.

Quintana was dropped because he is unable to ride as fast as the more explosive climbers like Valverde, Rodriguez, Froome and Contador in the last k of a short climb period. Does it tell us anything about his shape? No, 'cause he is not as explosive a aforementioned climbers, and the time loss was pretty much to be expected.

What will matter in the end is how the riders will do on the big climbs, and I still believe Quintana will be the strongest in the race on those.

But it wasnt really an acceleration that dropped him. Contador accelerated from behind Quintana, but Froome just rode him off his wheel by setting a tempo.
Yesterday lots of users claimed Quintana will destroy the field and other Colombans will put on a show. Neither of those things happened. Instead Frrome, Valverde , Rodriguez, Contador (namely all of his rivals) put time into Quintana.

Besides. You can see to whose wheel Contador stuck, even if it was in the middle of the bunch. He sees Froome as his main opponent and not Quintana. That tells you something...

Chaves is 2 1/2 years older than Yates. Yates's ride was an excellent result for a first-year pro. It was also, of course, a fantastic ride from Chaves.

Chaves might be older, he also didn't ride a bike for almost an entire season due to a severe injury. So many of that 'lead' was gone. He had to restart from zero.

Your telling me a single poster hasn't been raving on about it for the last 5 hours?

:p:p

It never ceases to amaze me how people underestimate Contador. Virtually no one except possibly YesPatterns, Hfer07 and Moose had him to finish top three. Contador simply wants to win, not that the others don't. AC simply elevates his game when the pressure is on.
