Good meet overall. The bend was what won it for Schippers. I don't think it was much to do with Felix fading.

Exellent weekend of athletics in the North-East with the
CityGames, the Great Northern Run and a number of the
sports biggest names: Farah, Kiprop, Felix, Schippers,etc.

The only downer was to see the sad state of the iconic
Gypsies Green Velodrome right near the finish of the Half
Marathon in South Shields. It is now derelict and has not been
used for track racing for many years (although there are a few
lap times on Strava ). Offhand, I can't think of many (any?)
other beach front velodromes anywhere in the world.
