Kwiat made a mistake by going to the front inside the last 1.5 k. He could just have stayed om Wallays wheel. Also he should have realised that he wouldn't get any help and jumped on Wallays wheel as soon as he saw the attack.

Dont know what Van Baarle was doing though, if they had cooperated they would have been sprinting for the win.

Van Baarle probably overated Kwiatkowski in the final there, thought he had more power left.

Having said that Kwiat was the one who screwed up the biggest, lol at letting Wallays go then riding tempo and looking at Van Baarle to take the first pull which was never in a million years going to happen. Why on earth would a 22y.o kid close that down with the world champion on his wheel.

I can get behind Baarle's tactics even if they didn't work out but Kwiat was either exhausted or screwed that up royally.

Also Benoot is a hero.

It was not that of a mistake. Kwiatkowski knew Top Sport must play 1-2, but he did not have the legs to chase each other. He was thinking Van Baarle will care about this competition, as he is new and needs to prove something here. Just like Cancellara always waits the newbies to do the chase.

It was not that fail after all, he was not the main cobble man in the team, the question is where was Terpstra ??

Okay... something more about the bad crash at the beginnning:
At first I was kinda laughing a little bit; what with the MTN-guy lying with his buttom-up in the ditch, and the LottoNL guy having to be lifted up by his team-mate.
Then I saw Aregger on the road...

What a lot of stupid talk about van Baarle here. He did the smart thing, only it didn't work out. If he had cooperated with Kwiatkowski, Theuns would've definitely beat him in the sprint and Kwiatkowski as well probably - as he is the better rider and not such a slow sprinter. Now he waited for Kwiatkowski to do the work, which seems logical since he's a great time trialist and in the rainbow jersey you want to show yourself. If Kwiatkowski would've closed the gap he might beat Theuns and also has an advantage over Kwiatkowski, since he has done all the work. His only way to win, quite smart by a 22-year old 2nd year pro.

Why wouldn't Kwiatkowski want to win this? Apart from the World Championship the only bigger race he's won is Strade Bianche. And that race is ranked lower by the UCI than Dwars door Vlaanderen,

Garmin's dumb tactics lost them two races today. van Baarle was the guy to neutralize the Walleys attack or BE the guy attacking. He did neither.

Explain yourself. If he neutralizes the attack, he will lose the sprint without a doubt. If he attacks, the Topsport guys will definitely try and get him back and since van Baarle and the Topsport guys are already doing an effort it's also more rewarding for Kwiatkowski to cooperate with Theuns and Wallays and get him back. Would still not be a good position for van Baarle to be in.

If Kwia did manage to bring back Wallays then Van Baarle still loses the sprint to Theuns.

Van Baarle should've tried something before Wallays went away. If he is caught and ends up 3rd, 4th who cares.

Kwia has bigger races coming up to target. Garmin have no wins and didn't try to win here, of course they are the main loser.

Lesson from today is follow the attacks when you're clearly the strongest rider out there.
What was he expecting? People dragging the World Champion to the finish line only to be outsprinted? Meh.

He should only blame himself.

He needs to handle being the favorite a bit better. That will happen to him more times.

Nizzolo seems to have a knee injury :(
Yes, Kwait is the main looser, but Topsport had all the cards to win this one. Theuns was fresher and was the best sprinter in the group. I think Van Baarle waited for Kwait to close the gap and take Theuns wheel for the sprint or to launch a late attack.

He is blaming himself, he's mad at himself thinking the other guys would also go for the victory.

It's a fact that they gave the victory away when they didn't wanna help him.

He's being a smart ass. Go close the gap yourself, you're the World Champion, and the favorite. He has to blame himself indeed, but not for what he says
