Greipel attacked today like he did in the Spring Classics and lead up races - Greipel is very decent on this terrain and could be competitive if given protection. Anyway,Greipels hard work in the Spring gave him the base to perform well in sprints at the TDF.

Benoot looked like coming home from a training ride despite winning that sprint. Probably had the legs to be in the first group.

Will go nuts tomorrow.

Wellens bridging to Greipel!!!

Great racing by Greipel and Wellens. Le Bon was more confident going into the corners and took the win well, although van Baarle was just as strong.

The rain made the racing wide open. BMC missed the plot. Keldermercx didn't seem to know what to do, but thanks to Lotto S, Lotto J keep the jersey. Wellens gained time on all his other rivals. Looks strong and will be the man to watch tomorrow.

A great stage and the GC is still wide open. :)

Jumbo owes a big thank you to Greipel. Crap riding from them.
Really? It was actually genius. Van Emden in the group behind, Kelderman with minimal effort in the group Lotto, only riding in the very end. Minimal waste of energy and still leaders jersey.

For once they ride smart and still get critics

Without Greipel emtying himself completely for Wellens LottoNL would've lost the jersey to Van Baarle or Le Bon..

GvA and Gilbert will be in their element from now on. It will be interesting to see how BMC will play it from here.

I guess BMC didn't know how they were going to play it either. As they say "Too many chiefs and not enough Indians".

So? As if those two are any danger with the upcoming two stages?
As if Van Emden is really a competitor for the overall.
Kelderman should've tried to gain more time on direct rivals like GVA, but instead chose mainly to follow.

Eh? I have nothing against Kelderman.
I just don't think the tactics today were right. 'Waiting' for Van Emden was illogical because he's bound to lose time anyway. Gaining time on dangerous rivals would've been logical. He chose to not be pro-active. OK, we'll say how that plays out.

Had Greipel not worked like a horse Kelderman would probably have worked harder. With Greipel and Wellens giving everything Kelderman did the right thing to follow wheels.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of and it showed today already. Phil attacking for boni seconds and then moments later Greg going after him was funny

Kelderman has a good shot but he has the same big problem as Boom last year. Poor team. We'll see how he handles it.

C'mon, DT. If he had worked earlier, Van Baarle and Le Bon would be even further back, as would the rest of the field. It's mainly down to Greipel that Jumbo held on to the leader's jersey at all, slim lead that it is.

Come on... Greipel was giving 100%, Kelderman waited until he was sure they'd stay away and then started to take serious pulls. Nothing he did wrong really, I would've advised him exactly what he did.

So Kelderman follows the right move, doesn't waste much energy and gains time on every other contender bar Wellens and people blame his performance? I wonder what you guys think about Astana, BMC and Etixx then.

Well, most users here only look at those things that confirm their held beliefs about teams, riders, &c. even if that means judging similar events dissimilarly for different actors. However, I guess everyone falls pray to a confirmation bias from time to time and we sure find ways to rationalize disconfirmations and cognitive dissonance.

Hard not to like Greipel. Always repaying the work his teammates did for him.

Also really like lotto-soudals racing attitude on these kind of races and the classics. Always animating the racing, always.

you have to look at the whole discussion. It started with someone saying LottoNL should thank Lotto. And that is true cause without red Lotto yellow LottoNL would've lost the leaders jersey.

Unless ofcourse LottoNL wanted to give the leaders jersey to someone else with Kelderman and Van Emden close behind so they wouldn't have to defend for now. If so hats off to them but I really doubt that was their plan.
