Just watched the first part of the coveage. Kittel - one of very few big name riders there - is clearly treating it like an easy training run after his illness and is already six minutes off the back. The roads also seem to be partially open to traffic, with several cars coming towards the riders.

Not a great start to the event.

Kittel has abandoned

Such a shame. The race has really good potential with an interesting route, testing weather and high spectator interest, but the organisation has been poor so far and now the star attraction has dropped out without even contesting a sprint.

At least iZnoGouD was funny.

Anyway, Steele Von Hoff, Julien Simon, will be up there. I'd bet on Reinardt van Rensburg for a stage win here, but he hasn't been performing well.

Never thought I'd say it, but with Lars van der Haar and Lawson Craddock, I'm actually rooting for Giant, lol. Perhaps from a break, now that Kittel is gone.

Only around 20 riders in the bunch now. At least 10 riders down in that crash has split everything.
