This will be my first Tour that I start watching at home, where I have a choice of Dutch, Belgian, or Eurosport coverage, and will finish watching in the US, where I will have........whatever. At the very least it will be a unique experience since I'll be watching the final weekend with my equally Tour mad son.

Hopefully you will be staying with some cycling fans who have NBCSN as they have the rights here. But you can watch pirated streams as I do of races that aren't covered here.

I am watching TDF on Eurosport online and NBC dish channel 159. The biggest problem is the commentators, on Eurosport you have two clowns being subjective at all times, maybe Eurosport is owned by SKY?? On NBC you have three other clowns. Liggett, Sherwin and Bob Roll which is leftover from the Armstrong era, they still support him as they support Chris Froome now who will be the next long lasting cheater.

I understand completely has I had NBCSN on the tv and ES on the computer and still we knew Nothing when Nibali was held up and so many other instances of No Info! Yes they are all Froome lovers and dreadfully biased......

To his credit, Vande Velde is growing into a very solid commentator. I really don't mind Phil because no matter how much he infuriates me at times, I just can't quit him. Never a big Sherwin fan because he was financially tied to "a certain" former 7 time Tour winner.

I do miss the days of OLN (the name of the network before they rebranded into Vs.; which was before they were bought by NBC). Cycling was always the crown jewel of their network, even in the Pantani days and ESPN still held rights to the tour. At one point, they broadcast just about every major WT race including all 3 GTs. When the founder of the network stepped down, he was replaced by a former director of Etv, and it went downhill faster than a Paul/Bobke interview with Lance about clinic topics.

CVV doing just fine IMO. Jensie not so much.....

I certainly remember the glory days of OLN and so many races in their entirety. Now I need 3 channels to get close to what OLN gave.

Pro-tip for anyone using NBC's Tour web app: it doesn't play well with Microsoft's Internet Exlporer. It works just fine in Chrome, though. Haven't tried it in any other browser.

Also, the access page is spoiler free, so you can rewatch stages in full after work or a morning ride without wading through headlines that give everything away. Unfortunately, the Tour Tracker and the video feed open in different tabs, but that's not a huge complaint, as the info is still close at hand.

Vande Velde should not be allowed to be involved as a NBC commentator with his dark past. NBC don`t seem to care.

Thanks for the info :)
As much as I hate to pay twice for coverage I am SO DONE with commercials every 30 seconds! And before somebody responds about pirate feeds - I was watching Eurosport on Monday at work when the stream died right at the final 2km and even that wasn't as annoying as having to listen to Mr 'Projectile Verbal Diarrhea' Carlton Kirby.
So 'ching, ching, let that cash register ring' one more time, NBC.

Just think of it as helping to increase the presence of cycling in the minds of stateside broadcasters. Maybe if enough people buy that thing, NBC will up its coverage of the Tour and even start including more coverage of other races.

Maybe. If nothing else, we subscribers can at least review bidon-gate in-depth courtesy of the Replay feature. ;)

We certainly hit a new low today when today's stage was preempted to midnight by NASCAR coverage. Nothing will infuriate cyclist more than replacing one of the most athletic sports with one of the least. I fear this kind of scheduling is going to come up more often.

Can we put the Jens experiment to bed please and put Paul Sherwin out to pasture?? please for the love of pete

Sherwin creates a false storyline. he is literally making things up.

Jens is just a buffoon and they are forcing the issue with him. giving him scripted opportunities and he still cant spit it out. It is uncomfortable and totally distracts from the telecast. any romance fans had with him as a racer is lost now with his babbling nonsensical dribble. stop pulling his string and just pull him from the show period. Or give him the roll Robbie Ventura had at OLN once where he went into the crowd each stage...Jens was the court jester of the peloton, make him the clown of the coverage. Simple

Far too may guys talking all the time.

In addition I think the heads at NBC are far too concerned about dumb-ing down the race for average viewers. the race is the race nothing else stop making it a carnival and have faith in your viewer, they will catch on. they are watching the real race remember, so no need to script it.

It is on live on the mother network NBC!!! I was confused for a minute too as my trusty DVR found it no problem, but I kept looking on the wrong station :).

Then neither should the majority of the commentators (including Sean Kelly). I'm not going into clinical topics, I'm but every case and situation in the USPS team was different and dictated from the top. A lot of livelihoods were dangled about to ensure you followed orders.

May well be next weekend as well.
Every stage will be live. You may just have to swap to NBC.

Looks like every remaining stage is scheduled for NBCSN though

Pretty good coverage for network TV this AM!

Alex Dowsett was great after the race! He definitely has a career in the booth when he's done on the road/track. One of them asked about a Brit being on a Spanish team: "can you understand the instruction from the team car?" AD: "well I didn't really understand the instructions from the car when I was on a British team."

I just love that reply on a stupid question!

:)

They are having some really good rider interviews after the stage. An added plus for the coverage!

Excellent! Caught the stage today on NBC, I still could have sworn yesterday's stage 7 wasn't on either channel until midnight.
The three stooges is on the air at NBC every morning 8 am. est.

NBC in the US airs anti-smoking ads from the government on every other commercial break, and I'm sick of them. These are not just statements. They graphically show horrific impacts on people's lives. Guys with huge chest scars, larynx boxes, a woman confined to bed. The intent is to drive fear and shame, so people stop smoking.

Advertised during a 2,500 mile three week cycling race. So all those chain smoking cyclists will stop.

And the US government is suing Lance Armstrong for a fraudulent waste of it's sponsorship dollars.

I need a cigarette.

Not to excuse interrupting the TDF but...

If you think driving a racing car isn't an athletic enterprise, you know nothing about auto racing. Is it riding the TDF? No. But it in no way resembles the driving you do each day. Not even close.

"Punch: The G forces that drivers' face each time they go into and exit a turn is like having your head pulled from your body. Then you are in a car that has a cockpit temperature of 135 degrees. The floor board of the cars is so hot that without the new shoes drivers have, they would burn their feet. The heart rate of a driver goes from that of marathon runner to a sprinter throughout a race. Finally, a driver can lose anywhere from 10 to as much as 20 pounds during the course of a race because of hydration."

This is the first year that I have transitioned to watching the race online and I am never going back to TV. Not seeing the same 3 commercials every 5 minutes is more than worth the price NBC charges IMO. Excellent picture quality as well.

It seems like every TdF rider interview has the rider saying an unnecessary "yea" numerous times. I find it irritating.
