Chaves slipped a place in GC, allowing Kabete to pass the remaining Chavistas and have 2 of the three Aru teams at the top of the pile, while the third of them, 18 Valve, shows the cost of not going with Majka (his day 1 loss of Nibali having made Majka unaffordable). Had Rodriguez (deemed too expensive by all participating teams) got that extra second, there would be 143 pts less for each of those Aru teams, which would not have shaken Mellow Velo from the top, but would have kept Kabete back in 5th. Will tomorrow's mountains bring more change?

An interesting edition of our game, with leader's points being less of an issue, uncertainty as to whether the race winner might be someone omitted from all teams, the main investment for about half the teams failing on the first day, and a relatively inexpensive rider (Chaves) putting all 5 teams that included him into the top seven.
