Tom's position on the bike is amazing, hes like a bullet.

Hiding the head well - look at JRod his head in way above the body, Aru looks like he's done some TT training
Specialized wind tunnel in the winter.

lets hope the red jersey will bring purito more luck than in 2011 :eek:

Or 2010 which was an all time awful time trial for a leaders jersey.

He's also obviously lost a Giro jersey on the time trial. Today will be 4 (is that a record).

Amazingly he somehow managed to hold on comfortably in 2012. Yeah I know it was a hilly tt but still.
Comfortably = by 1s :p (IIRC)

In the 2011 Vuelta he was already second +1sec to Dan Martin before the TT. So this is the 3rd time really.

Time trials in grand tours really need something like a virtual head to head using GPS

Every once in a while they do have exactly that.
It's almost always terribly inaccurate and misleading. That's why it's not always used
Noo, I hate GPS in a ITT, it kills the suspension, I only want to know the gaps at the timechecks.

Dumoulin meanwhile seems to be motoring along pretty well. 1st at the first intermediate.
