Hopefully will put to bed the myth that he is a decent time triallist on the flat; despite never having had a decent result on such a course.

It is not a myth. He is just dead tired. You have to remember he rode a Tour. and lots of stages at full gas.
Among GC contenders in this Vuelta (minus Dumoulin) he is one of the best

It is not a myth. He is just dead tired. You have to remember he rode a Tour. and lots of stages at full gas.

He's never done anything on a flat time trial. All his performances have been on hilly courses. Seeing his positionon the bike in this stage, you can see exactly why he struggles when it's fast and flat.

If we say the first time check comes after one third of the course, Tom will only be 2:12 in front of Aru at the end. He would lead the Vuelta, but its not that much.
