Valverde really wants to finish on the podium

But he's the least dangerous tbh. His attacks are not impressive at all.
Pretty hard to attack on a 4% climb though. He's probably just using it for training; getting some real zip back in the legs before the big one day races he's got lined up.

Sure, he must look at the Worlds and Lombardia indeed.

But these climbs suit Valverde better in his current form, then Ermita or Cabrales.

In his first years he would never have been dropped like that. And now is struggling to keep up on the flat.

You simply don't know.

Nice win for Gougeard!

I simply do know. As does anybody else.

And nice win for Gougeard indeed.

I like it that Movistar tries to attack, but on this descent its wasted potential.

Machado was not prepared for the Vuelta; was called up in the last minute; made a lot of work for Purito and only lost contact with the guy that won the stage, alone vs Amador / Moinard / Monfort. I really can't see how can you say that in the same circunstances, a few years ago, he could have done better (we are talking about his best result ever in a GT stage)

Valverde is crazy agresive today.

Wish he rode sometimes that way with his god-like legs...attacking just for fun.

He's almost always attacking. One of the most aggressive riders in the peloton.

The reason he doesn't is because his legs aren't quite as "God-like" as they used to be.

I anticipated the last 2k of this stage more than the whole Andorra stage; let's see if it can live up to my expectations

It's similar to how he won in Catalunya. Shame 25 or so riders have already finished today!
