He actually had a gap to close at the top of the climb, allthough a small one. I don't think he climbs good enough this Giro, but we'll see. He's going to wear a lot of pink though.
There isn't much difficult climbing this Giro so you never know. We will know a lot more after the Chianti TT.
He did absolutely no Altitude training leading into the race and if you are going to finish high in a GT these days you have to do that, he also weighs 4 or 5 kg's more than the Vuelta
He did none before the Vuelta as well apparently. Who knows what his actual weight his. Could just want no pressure, same approach as Vuelta 15.
Red Rick said:Dumoulin is clearly heavier than in the Vuelta, against better competition on bigger climbs, he has about as much chance to win as I have to become Miss Universe.
Jungels pulled pretty hard from 2k to go but it wasnt enoughTxrt said:10€ for 100 on Ulissi. **** hell I thought he would be caught with 6kms left. Thank god they left one Bardiani guy do all the work until almost the last km.

he was in a group ahead with Ulissi and Pirazzi amonst others

Kwibus said:Kruijswijk this time a lot sharper in the forst week. Riding at the front all the time during the final and actually attacking for a few seconds.
Now I wonder if he can still grow during the race like he normally does. Normally he has a crap first week so improving his form makes sense. Now he seems to start with good form. Interesting how that will develop.
Kwibus said:BigMac said:Kwibus said:BigMac said:Do you think I expected him to be in the first group? Between that and strolling and cheering in the gruppetto while doning rosa there's a huge gap.
Lol...what do you expect.
Such nonsense this. This is just silly hating
That he wasn't throwing a party in the autobus while wearing that jersey. But if he doesn't want it, it's not his fault he was given the opportunity to wear it in the first place.
You are obviously the only person with this opinion. So enjoy it.
Nothing, just a nice gesture towards his teammate.Kwibus said:Mayomaniac said:Now Major Tom is saying that he'd have loved to see Preidler in the leaders jersey.Billie said:Mayomaniac said:I only watched the final 3km, did Preidler attack ealier or was he albe to stay with the favourites?

Yes and? They played the Preidler card as he was feeling good and close in GC and didn't have a team to chase the break. So Preidler joined the break

We have a small betting company in the Basque Country called Kiroljokoa, which I only use to bet on cycling. As there's obviously a huge fandom for cycling over here, they have almost every race, and from very early; odds are good, and they are a bit slow in reacting. Today for example the first time I saw Ulissi on the break, he was still at 9/1. I bet 10€ thinking they'd close to change odds, but nah, it worked well. I tried to put extra 10 after the first one, and it didn't let me that time.
With 6km to go, I put 10 in Colbrelli in case they catched him at 13/1. I shouldn't have, apparently ahahah.
Txrt said:Am I the only one that thinks Nibali is going to absolutely destroy Landa this Giro? Astana look at another level when it comes to seriousness, preparation of stages, positioning, and teamate strength.
Also, I have a lot of faith on Kruijswijk and Chaves for this Giro.
Krokro said:For this stage I would bet a good fast puncher like Ulissi or Colbrelli as well. Navardauskas would do great on that kind of terrain but his form looks not that good. Less probably but Chaves or Valverde to try something in the 18% ?
I don't see Kittel or any real sprinter getting it. It will ofc depend on the prloton pace as well.
Yeah, destroy wasn't fair, no. I was talking a bit from the fear of him not being even close to Nibali, as I personally would prefer Landa to win, for various different reasons.Valv.Piti said:Txrt said:Am I the only one that thinks Nibali is going to absolutely destroy Landa this Giro? I share your sentiments about the teams and I think Nibali will win as well, but I won't say destroy necessarily, Landa will definitely be up there. But you are right, this is a Sky team riding and acting much differently compared to a Tour.

+1 Nibali or Valverde look sharper than Landa. We will see in high mountains if it's still the case.
Good surprises : Kruijswijk / Chaves / Dumoulin
Bad : Landa positioning, Majka ?

But yeah, saying destroy is clearly overreacting after a normal stage where he actually lost no time whatsoever. However I still maintain that I see Nibali as my clear favorite to win the GC; unless there's something weird (crash, illness...).
I believe the last week is going to be a bit too hard for Alejandro; but he's always capable of the unexpected, and he hasn't been racing that much this year so far; so who knows. The team is doing well to keep him in great positions at all times, and he isn't wasting stupid energy in things that go nowehere. Three days only, but he's racing a clever Giro so far.Valv.Piti said:Txrt said:Yeah, destroy wasn't fair, no. Same!
Apart from Valverde...

I don't think any rider needs to have 8 team-mates slaving for him all the time and Uran was as well protected as you would expect from the team. They rode a lot at the front of the peloton on stages 2 and 3.Taxus4a said:Cannondale says is all for Uran , but on the road looks like Moser and Formolo are on their way.. I understand, we are in Italy, they are imporrtant riders with some personal objetives, but a leader need to be well protected these days.
