Really looking forward to tonight i think Chaves will impress a few people, probably finishing in the top 20...limiting looses to Nibali/valverde to about 30-40 seconds...Uran or Zakarin to be in pink by the end of stage..

I was a little curious where the error in the profile was. Eshnar said the altitudes were fine but the profile was "doped".
I don't know the area, however I searched on Strava and found this segment:
https://www.strava.com/segments/1511560

Also, I did it in ekibike and it gave a similar profile but higher altitude in Panzano (3rd time check): 482m instead of 448m (in the official profile). Not that it changes a lot on the analysis.

Another thing: I don't see it as technical as the high level map suggests: after they leave Castellina (2km after 1st time check), they probably only brake a couple of times before reaching Madonna do Pietracupa (2nd time check). Same for the last 5km.
Nonetheless, Internet tools might be limited to give an accurate opinion

Look this, it's the original profile showed in october during the presentation of the race, the route is the same but you can see clearly the difference.

Agree with this. I was in the area and rode most of the course a couple of weeks ago. It's really not very technical at all. Even only being able to use half of the road, I hardly ever had to brake. It's so wide and well surfaced that they'll absolutely fly down, even on TT bikes.

Unless, of course, it rains heavily

STAGE 9: Radda in Chianti – Greve in Chianti 40.5 km ITT

Stage start: 12.35 CET, 15 May

Technical Overview:
The Giro continues its trend of wine-themed time trials with a twisty, rolling ITT set in the Chianti area. With its moderate length and complicated terrain, this TT will help the climbers limit their losses with respect to the specialists. The biggest hamper to the specialists will be the almost complete absence of straights: the course is filled with bends and hairpins, making it look strikingly similar to the first sector of the Saltara 2013 ITT. The terrain is not as hard as it looks however, as the profile has been “doped”, to make it look hillier than it really is, by stretching the altitude axis. Over the whole course there are only a few ramps that go beyond 5%. For example, the final hill measures 4.9 km at an average of 3.6%, with the first 3.5 km at an average of 4.5%... it is quite easy really.. Furthermore, the final ramp of the same hill, the one that ends in Panzano in Chianti, does not exist. I have no clue how they managed, but they messed it up, just look at the altitudes: a gain of 11m over 1.3 km... less than 1%. And before you ask, yes, the altitudes are correct, it is the profile that is wrong. Apart from this geeky remark, the final descent is very gentle but technical just as all the stage is.

What to expect:
The specialists to do their thing, and the best bike handlers between the GC guys to do extraordinarily well (I'm thinking about Nibali and Valverde). Gaps will not be too big, though. The winner will make it in around 45'.

Thanks, good iformation! :)

Anyway although it is in descent, there is no way to do it in 45 min, that is 54 Km/h, and with corners and some climbs that is no possible.

I think lot of people will be around 1 hour, and the best around 55 min, 52 in the best case.

Dumoulin said if he feekss like yesterday, no way to win the ITT.
Cancellara is feeling well now, he save energie yesterdaym he is not maybe at his top, but he can win.
Uran and Nibali have to do well here if they want to win the race...

Uran is looking fine l and he knows well the ITT, a good one for him.

omg what did I write
it was a typo... I meant 55'... thx

;) I did a typo as well wrtiting 55 Km/h when I meant 54...I agree with your 55 min about 45 Km/h the best, but it a dificult route to predit...They have to handle well the gear and to chose well the rings... for the last descent, wih tail wind even a 56 could be usefull.

Dumo stage win, with Zaka in pink. Hopefully Fuglsang can redeem himself a bit after yesterday, and move back into the top-10

I wouldnt be surprised if Zaka or Fulgsang win this.

Zakarin has showed very good for the medium mountains, even normal mountain, but I think in high mountains there are better people here even if he show all the potential he looks to have. If Zakarin win this with one minute (with Nibali, Uran, Valverde,... he will be one of the main contenders, but I think that he will suffer in last week anyway.
But I dont think he will take a minute today...he likely can get the pink, but no more.
