Shame about the weather, but this could've been handled so much better. Shorten the stage to begin with and make it only one lap.
Now riders had to ride hours in this weather and for nothing.

Well, you're a pussy because humans used to live in caves and now u live in a house.

Luckily for us, we keep evolving and so does the sport.
If this is evolution and we keep evolving probably in the end they'll go on racing only with sunshine and a temperature between 20°C and 30°C

Oh well, sure the human species evolved a lot in 50 years...

You would disagree?

It's all in the math. 10000 years ago total population 5,000,000 now 7,000,000,000. the more people the more chance for genetic change and accelerated evolution. Studies have shown that large populations tend to intensify natural selection............ now back to cycling

Well first up he is a team leader so it's no surprise to see him taking a sit behind others, second up he went out in a break in last years Tour when still injured and was taking plenty of turns on the front in that break, third up I have seen him working for teammates in the past so unless you are actually blind or just stirring the pot then the comment was just plain wrong

I think Matthews will surprise anyone who thinks he will be distanced on the remaining climbs. Should be the favourite but is readily available at 7-1 and better.

It's definitely still possible to distance him. But the other teams need to ride very aggressively and isolate him from his team (which should be no problem, except for Yates).

yes. The cyclists today are the same human beings as a century ago. Only, better trained and equipped. If anything, they should be able to endure more than their past counterparts.

Amets Txurruka is also in the team and I can see him being helpful

He's got a good chance especially as he can mop up bonus seconds the next couple of days, however there is a fair amount of climbing to do on Saturday, ok the climbs aren't very steep but it's up and down for most of the day and if the likes of Sky/Tinkoff/Movistar or another team race hard Matthews could be in trouble.

He might. However, he strikes me as one of the most inconsistent riders in the peloton, so I think it's hard to tell if he'll be useful or not.

It comes down to how these teams want to race it.
It's a hard stage if you push the pace from the get go and these teams have all the weapons to do it. If they don't drop Matthews it's their fault, unless he has improved a lot since last year.
