A thankless teammate today was the person who decided to put advertising boards over the barriers. If they used the regular metal fencing, with protruding feet, that save would have wound up a lot different.

Van Poppel relegated according to Geraint Thomas.

According to me, the stage designer should be relegated to collecting the garbage after stage finishes. It was fortunate that there were no serious injuries van Poppel's save was very impressive.

Will be very interesting to see how he goes over the next four days. Certainly this parcours suits him well and he rode a very good prologue. A shame he lost 14 seconds to his main rivals on Stage 3 but he still has a great chance in the GC (given the main contenders aren't really pure climbers).

Edit: Sorry, just saw the Giro reference and realised you were not talking about Miguel Angel Lopez.

Amazing save from Van Poppel, can't believe he stayed on his bike!

Nice win for Richeze, well deserved. Looking forward to some mountain action tomorrow, but it's hard to get a feel from the official profiles how hard the last climb is? Looks like it is mostly descent rather than flat after the Gotthardpass so presumably a win from the BOTD would be most likely?

It might be an useless trivia but Barguil is really fast in this race. All of the road stages in top 20 and yesterday he even managed to crack top 10. On his place i would rather slow down a bit and conserve my energy for next 3 stages as they're genuine mtfs with Rettenbach last. It looks like Suisse really likes this monster. Hopefully they won't overuse it in next 5 years. Give it like once in 5 years or more so every cycling generation would have a chance to compete on it while protecting its legend.

Completely agree. Such recklessness is outrageous.

this was one of the best sprint-stage finishes I've seen in years. I have no idea why people are complaining. seriously, on the dutch forum I frequent, everyone was ecstatic and rightfully so

I don't believe Gaviria let his team-mate win. He sat up a bit early but even so I think there was less than 5% chance of him catching Max Richeze even if he'd continued sprinting. Why also would he let a team-mate win a Tour de Suisse stage when he's never won one before himself. Everyone else I remember gifting stages to team-mates did it either in minor races or in races they'd already won. It sounds like excuses, I don't know if Gaviria came up with the excuse or his fans did, but it's hard to swallow.

Noticed it as well - Barguil indeed seems in super good shape. One of the favourites today. Going for him or Lopez! Unfortunately I can't watch today, but the next 2 MTF's are even harder, lol.

And agree on the last point.
