Vanmarcke made a mistake in the sprint
No, the mistake he made was how he rode the 198 km's before the sprint.
And how would that be? I thought he rode great...
Me too. I think its close to impossible to drop GVA and Sagan.. banking on a lucky sprint was maybe his best bet.

Yeah but he shouldnt have chased down GVA's attack in the last 5k. That was just stupid. He should have let sagan close it down and then countered

Greg didn't attack.

Gilbert was also good today. Another weapon for Etixx in Belgian classics.
The great thing about Quickstep is that they've got loads of very good riders, but none who are absolutely outstanding on the hilly cobbles. Even more so now than a couple of years ago, with Terpstra and Boonen not quite at the same levels on the bergs as they were before. So they should really be looking to animate the race early and put the favourites in difficulty as soon as possible - which should make for some great racing.

Our man in Flanders Brecht Decaluwe has some interesting news from the Trek-Segafredo team bus. Directeur sportif Dirk Demol is seeking out the commissaires to query the result. He said that riders were warned they would be excluded if they went off the road to ride on the pavement, rather than riding across the cobbles. According to Demol, while his team, including fourth-placed Fabio Felline, adhered rigorously to the directive, the three leaders did not... Demol is reportedly going to inquiry whether the race jury will revise the result accordingly... Watch this space...

I hope Gilbert reaches his 2009-2011 form where he was great in De Ronde, and in 2011 he even broke the record of Muur and then dropped everybody on Bosberg. Gilbert can also attack on the asphalt hills with Boonen attacking on flat cobbles. I hope they go full attack mode in Ronde.

There's no way the Belgians will relegate two of their best homegrown riders, including the reigning olympic RR champion, to give an Italian victory.

It just won't happen.

What a crybaby Dirk Demol is.

Oh and Sagan is sick apparently.

That would be great. If they were warned, then surely there is no discussion to be had - throw them out.

Nope, just dismissed by Sagan himself.

Re: Re:

Very fascinating to see *again* Sagan was a level above anyone else in the hill zone, but then fading towards the finish. I think you could 'see' it the last 20 km that he was fading, while Greg could barely hang on earlier but then looked stronger towards the end.

Lovely to see Sagan fans frustrated. Sport dedication prevails against showoffishness. This is a top race and he lost. :D

2017 road season starts the way 2016 one ended. The Slovakian unable to outsprint Greg after a long breakaway. Only with kilometers of wheelsucking he can. This time no whining like he did all the job like supposedly he did in Montreal (while Greg brought the group to Costa all by himself but well). This time he did less than others and still lost.

While I'm glad GVA won, that certainly isn't true.

GVA didn't win it, so it's not considered a race.

Sagan asks Sep why he hasn't attacked. He should have attacked and gone for it. Sep answers they agreed to wait for the sprint. Sagan laughs! :D

He literally told Sep live on Sporza that he likely would've won if he had simply attacked once and Sep ain't got his point at all *facepalm€
