Many of you will be expecting this: here it is.
What you need to do
*Choose 9 riders taking part in the Tour.
*Ensure that the total "cost" of your team is 4000 pts or fewer, using the CQ ranking over 12 months to 25th June as the price for each rider.
*PM your team to me, using the CQ name format (surname, then forename, nothing else, no team no price), by start of the race (15:15 German time on Sat 1 July)
*Check the list of entries at the end of this opening post, and nudge me if your name does not appear within 24 of submitting it.
*Hope that your team gains more CQ points during the race than any other.
*Enjoy.
What I'll do
*I'll check that your 9 riders are taking part, and that the team is within budget. If you submit the team in good time, I'll let you know if there are problems with your selection.
*If you are over budget, I'll take out the cheapest rider who can be replaced with a cheaper member of his team that will bring you into budget: if you pick someone who is not riding, I'll replace him with the next cheapest of his team, or the next cheapest in the race if there is not one in his team.
*I'll assist you in collating a team by putting up a spreadsheet on dropbox with the riders named to start and their price: Here it is, with apologies for the delay.
*I'll smile gratefully and be relieved if you submit your name in the proper CQ format: I will gnash my teeth and curse quietly if you don't, and might ask you to send it again, especially if you are an old hand at the game.
*I'll allocate points as issued by CQ for the race: there are points for all finishers, with a sliding scale of points for those finishing 1st to 50th; for the top ten in each stage , the yellow jersey wearer each day, and top ten in green and polka-dot (but not white) jersey competitions:full points here.
*I'll post the teams and some analysis of them on Saturday once entries are closed.
*I'll put up (real life permitting) daily updates of a green jersey classification and the main (yellow jersey) standings.
*I'll update the list of entries in this opening post at least once a day during the build up to the race.
*I'll send my team to the first manager to submit a team lest anyone think I am stealing their ideas. (That was DJW at Velorooms: he is the guardian of my conscience for the next three weeks)
*I'll despair quietly as my team drops into lower half of the table obscurity by the middle of week two, as it so often has before
What we will need to do collectively
Think about whether we want/need to change the format of the game next year to reflect the move from 9-man to 8-man teams. There is no reason why the team size in the game must reflect the teams in real life, but maybe some people like to compare. The main options would be a) keep everything as it is; b) reduce to teams of 8, with a corresponding change in budget (4000*8/9 = 3556, so 3500 or 3600); or c) change to 8 riders but keep the budget as it is. Thoughts?
Entrants To just after midnight (BST) on Saturday morning (just): 14 hours (I think) from the datestamp on this post for 11th hour entries.

One team was overbudget and the manager has accepted the automatic swap per the rules, all other teams correct and within budget (and correctly formatted: thanks guys)
