Haig will learn next time to share the pace with Majka when Visconti was distanced - Haig was at least the second strongest rider but yet finished third - Anyway, Haig has made progress from Slovenie 2016.

Majka did his job
Muhlberger great effort, the future rouleur
I hope Visconti is ok after that finish :)

Tadej Pogacar born 1998 was 5th today and is leader of Youth Classification. As he explained in after race interview, he is learning in school hence cannot do as much kilometers as he would like to do better. Interesting prospect it seems.

1998?? Seems a bit too young to be put in the biggest cycling race in the country with some top names of the sport. But yes, a very good prospect indeed.

18 years and fifth in a big mountain stage of a relatively big race in the Tour preparation phase. That's really impressive. I actually don't think I have ever heard of an 18-year-old mingling with the pros (and doing well) before. Except for Gerald Ciolek when he was German champion at that age.

Bernal last year at Trentino. Van der Poel won a 1.1 race in his first U23 year (and won also the Baltic Chain Tour and top-5 at Tour Alsace). And that's the firsts that come to mind, there should also be others.

Pogacar is a very good talent. I'm keeping an eye on him since last year and he has some pretty strong results this year, not only in the Tour of Slovenia.

Costa was 18 when he took second place in Tour of Utah last year.

I'm happy with Cav's performance - on the sprint stages he was up there, and it was a solid sprint today, especially considering the uphill finish.
Hopefully, he'll continue building up form until the Tour.
Then he should take it easy (if such a thing exists in the Tour) for the first couple of stages, and just try ride into form.
Then we will hopefully see the return of the Manx Missile

Re:

If it hadn't been for the rain and Bennett's crash, Bora would have taken GC, every stage plus the mountain and sprint jerseys here. As it is they got all of that but missed one stage. They had the best climber, the best sprinter, the best sprint domestiques and the best mountain domestique. Strongest team by an absolute mile.

Surely it's too soon for Cavendish to be ready for the Tour. This was impressive as a first race back before most of us thought we'd see him again, but a three week GT seems like it would be way too much for someone coming back from his illness and would likely make things worse.
