Today was obviously a very entertaining stage judging on the comments and everything.

Why end the race with a flat and completely irrelevant stage?...

The more they make their race have features of a GC (Prologue, sprint stage to finish), the bigger they feel their race is.

Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't make a TTT as well. That would go well alongside the prologue and MTT in a six-day race. Maybe a long ITT to finish it off with too.

And a rest day.

Fuglsang didn't give anything up, he got sick and then crashed in 2014 and sucked in 2015 (was basically captain after Nibali lost everything on the first MTF). Then in 2016 they were both peaking for Rio while he crashed again in 2017. And in that Giro in 2016, he simply didnt have it. For the most part, he rode his own race.

When you are not the captain, you ride a MUCH different spring programme, especially on Astana in those years, where the best helpers, like Fuglsang, Cataldo and Kangert, got run ragged, and did way too many races.

He has had 2 proper lead ups as a TdF captain, 2013 and last year.

2013 was his first ever attempt at being a GT captain, and he got 7th at the tour
2017 he crashed in 5th place overall, through no fault of his own, and fractured his wrist and back.

- every other season, has been about riding for Nibali

As for the Giro in 2016, you need to go back and check some tapes

2nd in ITT Colombian championships - 6 seconds behind Egan Bernal
5th in Oro y Paz - 5th to Manizales
7th in Catalunya - 10th on La Molina
12th in Romandia - 14th in CTT to Villars

Very good season for him thus far, performing better than in the last two Gaudu for instance.

He might end up squeezing into the Columbian world championships squad

Why would I be kidding? And can you point to those too many races and the fatigued that apparently is the reason why he hasn't performed so well....?

Again, I watch a lot of cycling and I watched the whole 2016 Giro. Fuglsang was very good the first part of the race, but when the real mountain hit, he was nowhere to be found for Nibali and was found trying to stay into the top-10 on the big mountain stages which he didn't succeed in either. As Pistolero said, pretty useless for Nibali actually.

might be, but man he rode the cobbled stage to perfection as a teammate. I think that was some of the best domestique work ever seen by fulgsang and Westra.
