It's less than a week since the Tour de France ended, we're in the middle of the World Championships, but halfway through the Spring Classics game, and I'm launching the Giro game. 2020, huh?
If you don't know these games
cqranking.com is a site you should check out. It took on the allocation of points from all .1 and higher races when the UCI stopped doing so after the initiation of the ProTour in 2005, and has continued it since, thus making an invaluable summary of results and career progressions since the turn of the millennium.
Although they publish a score for during the calendar year, the score that is more relevant to us here is the running score over the last 12 months. Those scores are available on that site, and can vary day to day, but are also on a spreadsheet made available for download once a week. It is those prices for the year to Sunday 27th September, as they will appear on the download on Monday 28th, that are the cost of each rider in the game.
Your task as a manager is to pick 8 riders who are taking part in the Giro, and whose total cost is no more than 3500 points. Your score is the CQ points they gain in the Giro (points for the top ten, 70 to the winner, in each stage; the same scale of points for the final points and mountains classifications; 18 points for the pink jersey wearer going into each stage; and final GC position with scores from 500 for the winner down to 15 for all finishers) The prices, start list, and full score charts are on a spreadsheet here. That spreadsheet also gives you the version of riders' names which I would ask you to use.
Your list of riders should be with me (send a personal message on Cycling News or VeloRooms) before the stage 1 starts at 13:15 Italian time on 3rd October. If your team is over budget or you select a rider who does not start, I will try to alert you to the need to change, but if you don't, I'll swap him for the next cheapest in the same team, or next cheapest altogether if necessary. There will be updates after each stage.
If you only need the summary
8 riders, 3500 points, by 13:15 on 3rd Oct, selection tool.
Please don't try to submit your team before the prices are set after Sunday's results, but by all means start thinking.
And, as ever, good luck to all.
