Technical Overview:

The 2021 Giro d'Italia starts with a short individual time trial, as it often did lately. This year the Grande Partenza is in Turin, like just 10 years ago (but that time it was a team TT). The stage starts in front of the Royal Palace and goes mostly along the Po river, crossing it after the intermediate sprint, which comes at km 3.8. The crossing is pretty much the only technical part of the route, as all the rest is made of long and straight roads. A time trial for pure specialists, but being this short it will not make huge gaps.

What to expect:

Small differences between the GC guys and a heavyweight to wear pink. Maybe one from the region…

It's the day before the Giro starts and there is still no thread up for stage 1  I'm not gonna make all of them guys c'mon...

The course, going slightly downhill, should suit Ganna well, although he's not in best form. He will loose some of the rolling speed, of which he should have more than the others due to his weight, in the corners, but it's still not too technical and he won't have to break a lot.
I am hesitating to call him the favourite because he didn't look great in recent weeks, but I am expecting him to do better than in Switzerland.
The differences between the GC favourites could already be quite big, well, not minutes of course, but I think 50, maybe even 60 seconds are possible between for instance Evenepoel and Landa?
