I'm pretty sure that initially was in the route (at least in the original one for last year) but they took it off.

You still have to be the fastest of the field. Equally difficult whether it's 4 kms or 80. Just a different type of test.

And no running event needs to be more than 60 m.

Probably due to the schedule clash with the Tour of Britain which is the first post covid lockdown race of significant level in the UK. Would have made it hard to raise a team of any useful standard and most team personnel also involved.

They are afraid of the backlash if they win and one of the UKs top cyclists will have to wear an EU flag for a year

So Roglic does the road race (?) I'm pretty surprised. I would expect resting before WC/Lombardy but it seems Vuelta didn't tire the terminator at all.
