The only way to slay Van Aert is full gas racing ideally with small climbs close to the finish. Not great for monument prospects.

Almost 5000 meters of climbing seems to be too much for Van Aerts build, sure, he‘s not on peak form but I think he‘s overrated when it comes to pure climbing and endurance.

I wonder now if world's will be too hard for WvA... He isn't in TdF shape. Maybe he can improve slightly but Pogacar (and MvdP?) seems a better fit to the parcours, if he rides like he did today.

To me it seems that van Aert used his effort following Poga/Yates on the 2k 8%. Pogacar is known for crazy high recovery.

I thought Van Aert would win when Pog was nice enough to lead him out, but not this time.

Gaudu should have attacked the moment he was alone on the other side. He would probably not have won anyway, but it would have been a better way to to play it

Congrats to Pogi, he's back! Should be very strong at the WC and Lombardy as well. He attacked strongly on the last lap dropping most guys and then Yates did an even stronger surge (slightly dropping all except Pogi there) but the top5 stayed together until the finish, when Pogacar had the most power by far.

Pogi boy beating Van Aert in the sprint from starting in front of him

Van Aert was more tired from those 50 or so hills on this long route (resulting in 4000+ m of climb). Pogacar as a great climber went into the red for shorter time.
