will be interesting to see if Mas can hang on today. Looked strong yesterday, but it's his descending which was the main issue recently

I don't think Jumbo would be too unhappy to let a non threatening GC break go up the road today and for one of them to take the red jersey from Roglic. So there could be two separate races from within the break. Jumbo rode for most of yesterday and I don't see them wanting to do that for 3 weeks.

I hope Roglic doesnt go full risk in moving to the front again today by touching other riders, the others might get irritated.

at the finish yesterday Harper said that they initially planed to let the breakaway win and take the red jersey. Could be the same today, I guess. Will Trek be confident enough in Pedersen to make it over the climbs again?

It's interesting for the break and for the GC contenders that the final climb and descent happen twice. The first time you study, the second time you can make a move knowing everything that you need to do. I can see Pinot in the break and Remco attacking in the final climb. Even if it's early in the race, if he cares about the GC, he can't afford to lose 10 or 15 seconds here and there. Soon, he'll be a minute down.

Considering that Keukeleire won the last double Vivero Vuelta stage in a reduced bunch sprint you wouldn't blame them after how well Pedersen went yesterday.

it's not the same climb, though. Last time they did this side was when Anton won (and in Itzulia, won by Roglic)

I don't see why Jumbo would drill anything besides last climb. Roglic can win a sprint of a reduced peleton.
If they drill hard early on, it only opens up for a Remco raid because domestiques are dropped so why take the risk.

History shows that if you drill this type of stage early on then you drop GC contenders - Whether Remco survives is irrelevant.

60k in, it's still gruppo compatto. 48 kmh average.
Maybe we'll have to wait until Puerto de Gontzagarigana for some riders to get away.
Comes in 40 minutes or so.

The whole team was a bit much perhaps, but at least they could have put one guy in the break.
14 riders have 30 seconds. Fred Wright and Rudy Molard willfight for red if they go all the way.

Arndt came quite close (26 seconds) to winning the Bilbao stage last time, on a more difficult route. Dropped out of the front group with a mechanical yesterday, but seems to be in good shape.

This looks like a stage for the break. Lutsenko, Battistella, Alaphilippe, Pacher, Vine, Pinot and Buitrago seems like good condidates. Perhaps even Pedersen and Hayter will target this from the break as well.
Nice prediction! I mentioned 9 names and with 18 riders up the road, I didn't get a single one right. Statistically, that must be pretty hard to achieve!
