I've been turning over the idea of a Cyclocross game for a while, but not been quite sure how to format it. Let's not miss a year though, even though this year might be a bit of a prototype.
It won't be a CQ game (because CQ doesn't do cyclocross points), and I can only see UCI rankings as a 12 month rolling score, so the points will be according to PCS.
The beauty of the fact that men's and women's races usually happen in close parallel is that we can have men and women both represented in the same game, so I am keen to make equal interest in both sets of races.
This can be up for discussion for future editions, but my sense is that, because we have essentially the same riders in all races (that have a high yield, at least), and because outside of the top few in each race, there is minimal coverage and minimal information, the CQ style selection from a huge database is unsuitable. That in turn makes the type of budget that we have for the other games something I am less confident at setting/proposing.
So, this is what I am setting up:
Your team will have 18 riders: 6 from Group A, 6 from Group B, and 6 others; you may however swap your allowance downwards (eg, 5 from A and 7 from B, or more than 6 who are not named, and less than 12 who are)
The balance of male and female riders is entirely up to you.
Your score will be the PCS cyclocross points (elite level, PCS give men's U23 points but they are not part of this game) earned by your squad since the time of you picking them (Therefore you have an incentive to get your team to me before the Koppenburg cross on Wednesday) Points already earned this season are not to be counted, nor will those between now and you sending a team.
No entries after the start of the next World Cup event (Women's race at Dendermonde on 12th November)
Finishes on 25th February (Sluitingsprijs Oostmalle)
Entries (Surname Forename: one line per rider, no other info please) by PM to me. Not many Danes, Spaniards, Portuguese or Eritreans, so fewer variants on names for me to struggle with)
The key remaining question is what are Groups A and B. They are those ranked 1-6, and 7-12 respectively, in the 2022-23 UCI rankings
Let's see how it goes, and we can discuss how to set up future games as we get to the end of the season.
Good luck, and enjoy.
