2024 Giro CQ Game

FYI. Landa is probably my current favorite rider as Sagan has retired (basically).

Pog is just the GOAT and very entertaining to watch. The greatest rider I have seen.

Anyway, thats neither here nor there for this game... but since it was mentioned.

Final standings
Kazistuta's B team has 4 sprinters, but three of them were beaten in contributions for this classification by Martinez, but all 8 scored 37 or more. But that was not a team that was selected, so it is Queen Stagiaire who takes the minor title, with Peixotini, having Gaviria, overtaking Slow Climber at the last for 2nd.

Final standings
The only stage in the race in which Pogacar has not gained points does not affect the top pair because of the margin they already had. That gap stays the same, as was probably to be expected. Milan only got second, which of itself would not have lifted Amis Velo to the podium, but he also has Gaviria, to pips Laarsland for 3rd. The 11th, and last, Pogacar team is in 22nd place, which means that there are equal numbers with and without him in those 22 spots.

Congratulations to Salvarani, and to Queen Stagiaire in the purple classification on their victories, and to Googol plex and Amis Velo (and Peixotini and Slow Climber) on their podiums.
Thanks to CQ for the points and prices, and to PCS for the daily tables I have been using.
Thanks to the riders, for their unwitting but essential contribution to the game.

And thanks to all who took part, especially the small number of teams polite enough to finish below me. See you all again in a few weeks for the Tour. Will Pogacar fit in the budget there?

Some number crunching to follow, probably tomorrow.

Pink perfection

Although the top two teams had Pogacar, the best possible team would have omitted him:

Amis Velo, the top non-Pogacar manager, had 6 of these, but Uijtdebroecks and Gaviria don't add up to Paret Peintre and Steinhauser. 3 and two halves of this group are in the collective Wisdom team (look at that tab to make sense of that).

The best possible team with Pogacar could have run them fairly close:

Again, Salvarani had six of them, with Leemreize and Pickrell not reaching the heights of Gaschke and Muñoz. But 93.8 % of the best possible score, especially while only having two of those riders, is remarkable. I might delve into previous Giro and Vuelta games to see if either 2380 or 93.8% have been achieved before: I suspect not.

Purplish perfection

I don't really expect anyone to put in a team specifically aimed at the stage points category, although I sometimes suspect that some teams have half an eye on it. It would have been possible to have Milan and Merlier as teammates rather than rivals, and still have budget for some other stage winners:

They would have scored 2175 points overall and come 6th.

Or you could take your 6 stage wins from one man rather than two, but then some strange picks are needed to maximise the score while observing the 8 rider rule.

But this team was beaten by Queen Stagiaire's selection.

More rider stats later, I hope.

I correctly identified that Pogacar was good at riding his bike.
I correctly identified that Tiberi was going to have a good Giro.
I correctly identified that Leemreize was going to be the decisive pick and should be on my roster.

Of those three predictions I think the first one was the most impressive as it was very hard to see it coming.

Thanks Armchair for organizing and congrats to the top teams Salvarani and Googolplex.
