Excellent work from Lotto. De Lie with a phenomenal sprint, the only guy who could've beat him was Meeus who was outpositioned.
Was thinking they should attack with their 325 riders left in that group. Normally not the best tactic to do a sprint with Philipsen and Merlier, but the winner is always right. Imagine him getting 4th or so.

But this is what happens when he doesn’t kick his chain in half.

Emotional interview. Love the kid. Well deserved. Ready for another win in the Tour.

De Lie has yet to show he can position himself at the WT level in flat sprint finishes. Transitional stages will be his go in the TDF.
On pure speed, he should get a regular sprint I reckon. The stage that looks best for him is stage 8 though. And I do think the break stages are too hard for him unless you consider stage 11 and 12 transitional stages, but those options in a break could be what he was looking for also

You're kidding right?
Nys has a great sprint, heck, he has won bunch sprints before...
Yes but not against this pack of elite WT level sprinters in a flat sprint. Nys attacked ~30 km from the finish on a hill and was riding up to 30s in front of the peloton before being caught. He spend too much energy in that effort but still ended 4th so great performance from him.

Very smart celebration Dylan
