he didn't travel to Australia, he stayed in Monaco this winter and trained there. didn't race.
I wouldn't expect him to be fit for Sanremo nor I'd ask him to race it

Well, he had zero confidence the last 2 years. Better than continuing to throw him into WT sprints that he was afraid to contest.

The sprint competition in the big/suitable races seems really big at this time. Even if Ewan finds top form, stars will have to line up a bit to get a top result, but you never know.

Honestly, that may be his level now, i.e., non-WT races. That's not terrible given that he's probably on a "last chance" deal at Ineos.

I don't wish him ill; I think his issues are partly self-inflicted, but it takes a huge amount of self-confidence to contest WT sprints given the danger. He hasn't been the same since he and Sagan crashed in the Tour a few years ago.
