2025 Giro CQ Game

This has suddenly got close.

The game will follow the same structure as for a number of years:

Team of eight (must all be starters in the Giro)
Budget of 3500 CQ points as of Sunday 4th May (as recorded in the CQ download that should be out on 5th May)
Assistance in selecting There is a spreadsheet with riders shortlisted here (true prices as soon as I can).
Team submission to me by PM before they start the race on Friday 9th (CQ name versions please)
Invalid picks if not corrected, will be replaced with most expensive rider who can replace them

Points won for stage points, standings in GC, sprint and KoM classifications
Minor ranking for stage points only
Updates each day (probably)

After all these years, I think I have managed to reduce the OP to the bare minimum, but if there is anything unexplained, please ask.

Is that strictly speaking necessary?
You're not really cheating - other than yourself - by picking a rider who's not riding.
He'll still take up part of your budget, and isn't going to score any points.
Or, are you not really differentiating between points scored at the Giro, and points scored elsewhere?
It is "cheating" because if there are no zero pointers on the startlist, you could pick 7 men with a total cost of exactly 3500 and one non-participant freebie. That will open some possibilities that the current rules do not allow.

Question for the future: Would it be possible to use cq-ranking from a bit prior to the event? I have a limited amount of time these days and others surely too, so using the ranking from 4 days prior the start of the event is a bit suboptimal in my eyes. I think it wouldnt change a lot to use the ranking from a week before so that those with limited time have more time to choose their team. I know that the Romandie is right before and probably you want to get those results in but in a 12-month-ranking I dont think it wont change so much.

Given we don’t have a startlist yet and many teams have not much more than 2/3 riders listed I think we need to leave it quite late anyway.

There have been times when I used an older pricelist when CQ has been very late with their weekly download (is Monday a public holiday where they are: it might be late again) and the start being on Friday is a bit of a nuisance. But Hayneplane makes a good observation about the relative timings of CQ pricesheets and confirmed startlists. Many riders in the giro probably won't be busting a gut in Romandie, so if you do need to pick early, you could make a fair stab at what their prices should be. Send a couple of contingency names if you wish and have to go early.
