Hope CONi ban them all for min 2 years.

Realistically, two non-factor riders will probably be banned for 2 months. All these cases are really coming to nothing, either banning retired riders which makes no sense or fining riders for what their bikes are worth on the open market (aka drop in the bucket).

Doping pays and no recent case has proved otherwise (yet!).

I said last year october(when they were supposed to release everything) they have nothing and so far I"m right as always typical italian macho talk from prosecutors, in the end 2 or 3 riders get suspended 3 months for talking to a doctor.

Wasn't he only named in Padua & not Mantova. (at least, publicly)

Yes. Mantova concerns Lampre-NGC in 2009 and Guido Nigrelli the pharmacist.

There has been a huge diaspora of Lampre riders since then. Almost all of those named (wisely) went to other teams, some quicker than others.

Of the original list of indicted riders, only Cunego remains with the team, while Pietropolli joined Lampre. He was with LPR when originally targeted by the prosecutors.

Cunego was supposed to go (Ive been told it was set to leave for Garmin) but he choosed to remain in the team.

Bump I guess, or someone could open a new thread too:

Unfortunately we have some doping news for you. The judges in the Mantova investigation has sent 27 people to trial. That includes 18 riders, amongst them Damiano Cunego and Alessandro Ballan.

Not hard to imagine it. Garmin spend $500,000 to keep the riders on the negative side of testing.

i actually think jv wants a clean sport, and clean team.

but he cant reconcile the cognitive dissonance, and a professional sports circuit and competition that has clean sport at tension with doping for performance.

I think the term "clean" and "doper" are cruel euphemisms that will never sketch the nuance of the sport.

looking at the rotten state of cycling, i think he saw a niche there that he could exploit.

all in all, i think JV's interest is his bank account, and having a bit of fun while filling it.
of course, if he can promote clean cycling and take credit for that, he'll do that.
like few others, i think he's understanding how in the long run clean(er) cycling is the best sellable product.
vaughters has seen the ****storm coming long before many others.
i think he, unlike some others in cycling, has anticipated a lot of the current developments, including of course Pat's downfall.
in the land of the blind...

Ballan never tested postive.
Where are all the "evidence first" posters?
interesting is that ballan doesn't even say "i never tested positive".
rather, he says "look at my passport, nothing to see there".
"just look at my passport" is the new "never tested positive".
these guys have figured out how to circumvent the passport long ago.

Probably busy trolling the Walsh thread.

I am eagerly awaiting their thoughts on Ballan though.

Plus when the finally try and nail a rider based on a dodgy passport the excuse list is long: virus, parasites, overtraining, stress, general dislike of the cold weather etc.

The anti doping system needs an overhaul methinks.

What do you think would be a more effective and airtight system? What kind of 'overhaul' would avoid such excuses?
