Is Shiring the new Remco?
It's Van Empel who's a former football player, so I'd say she's more of a Van der Poel or Pidcock, if we have to compare them, although she doesn't ride MTB.
But Shiring is not big and super powerful like MVDP, she seems much more like a Remco, small and aero and great at persisting with the effort. Same way she raced in CX.
It was also impressive that her initial surge didn’t put her all that clear of the front group, but she didn’t let up and then the ones leading the chase couldn’t keep it up.Pieterse is probably the most Van der Poel-like if the three, but I don't see Van Anrooij as being the Remco type either.
Well done by her, but the other teams should have been prepared to follow Trek and SD Worx moves, though her initial acceleration also seemed like a tough act to match.
What an impressive win by Shirin, by far the strongest rider in this race. With Pieterse in Strade, and now Shirin, I think it's pretty clear that the level in women's cyclocross is incredibly high right now. And to think that Van Empel is actually the strongest of the three...
Neither will Van Empel, in the near future. They both prefer the mountainbike. Van Anrooij is the only real road rider of the three.Shame that Pieterse won't ride much road.
Cat Ferguson, who finished 6th in the junior race at the CX WC, won the Piccolo Trofeo Binda ahead of Julie Bego, who was one of the better first-year juniors last year. Ferguson might not be as talented as Zoe Bäckstedt, but she seems quite promising.
Just won a national race in The UK on her debut, something even Backstedt and Pidcock couldn't manage. Hoping she can have a fuller season in CX this winter. Interview and bit of background on her from this week below:
