What the hell happened here?!! Totally blow away by the TT of Martinez! There’s something with Ineos TT bike setups that must be studied! They are amazing with their setups! Almeida disappointed once again, he used to be better than Martinez at itt but guess that’s his new normal since going to UAE.
Bit weird to write this down to a bike setup. Martinez is only a handful of seconds down to Ganna, who is arguably the best TT-er in the world (sorry Remco for now). Ganna riding on the same setup, so it is just down to Martinez doing a great TT.

Obviously that Martinez did a great TT but still Ineos does wonders with their TT bike setup. Last season was Yates doing amazing results in tt now it’s Martinez.

Martinez is always in between 5th and 12th or so in his TT's last year (Paris-Nice, Pais Vasco, Suisse).

The riders in the late stage 3 attack all underperformed today, it probably took its toll.

The "Yates" groogster was referring to was obviously Adam, as I don't think Ineos has ever had much to do with Simon's ITT results.

It did look like something was up with Almeida bike or why else would he gesture so much and wobble a bit later on?
Commentator was speculating on that is was the electric gears, but if he could still change manually a stop might have made him lose more seconds than just doing it manually throughout the race.

That's what I thought too. Something with the bike, but not bad enough to need to change it. But bad enough for him to lose his focus. So in the end he could've lost at least 10 seconds, which still would be disappointing considering he's racing for himself and in his homeland. But not this bad.
And I still think yesterday was about his tactics rather than his strength.
Just saw last season Adam’s itt results and it wasn’t anything special besides the 5th in the Itzulia Basque tour. Guess that I was mistaken after all, maybe because Simon did good results last year tricked my mind !
Yes I was referring to Adam and not Simon but I was mistaken about Adam’s itt performances . They were nothing special after all.

Yeah, I see what you mean - there are races with action from the beginning, and this stage wasn't exactly dramatic in the first part. But the change of scenario at 25 K to go was exceptional. And in fact, the unexpected attack was very close to securing Ganna the GC victory later (he was beaten only by two seconds).
Why did Pidcock unclip his pedals before taking advantage of that slope?

Didn't see the race, was sick. I saw from images on social media that QuickStep still hasn't provided Van Wilder with custom aerobars like basically every GC/TT rider has. Even a dud like Masnada has them. The creator of the aerobars that Campenaerts used in 2019 for his world hour record, said back then how many watts could be saved by using them. I think it translated to a 10 to 20s gain (depending on rider weight/height and weather conditions) in a 30 minute effort.
I wonder if people will still claim Almeida has not regressed as a TT rider since going to UAE. Dude is going backwards

His 4th place in the 2021 NC (when he had just turned 21) he finished on a flat tire that had been gradually losing pressure in the final lap. He finished 20 seconds behind Campenaerts and 40 seconds behind Evenepoel. Maybe you should check how many riders generally finish within 40s of Evenepoel in a 35k TT, let alone on a flat tire - wait, let me put one of these because i know you like them:
He was also 3rd in the 2020 U23 ECC TT over 26km, just 5 seconds after 2 year older Bissegger, but i'm sure Bissegger also can't TT for ***. His time would also have put him 5th at the pro's who rode on the same course, ahead of Affini. You may know who that is since he is the second best TT'er of his country which you claim is the best TT country in the world. Insert smiley of your choosing.
Turns out he came up 13 seconds short to beat Ganna in GC, which was what we were discussing. So tell me, you think it would have been impossible for him to be 13s faster had he had just a slightly better day? And remind me again how Almeida did, who had proven to be a better TT'er?
But to be fair, i think Van Wilder didn't even do his best TT, but he also still doesn't have a fancy aero cockpit like Ganna, Küng or Foss, which are said to offer up to 6% CdA efficiency.
As for him being relatively better at longer TT's. He's a GC rider, take a guess.

I really enjoyed the TT. The early rain actually provided for some great shots, and the scenery around the steep ramp was amazing. This and the 1st stage was the only ones I saw as I'm on vacation with my family who don't all share my interest in cycling (and races). Here are a few shots from the beautiful day. I guess the riders in order are Kamp, Pinheiro, Le-Gac, Arensman, Küng, Foss, Küng unless I mixed something up (I don't recognise all of them to be honest).
