There was a time in which the Clasico RCN used to attract a lot of stars from the European circuit. Since Colombian cycling declined in the 90's it all went away. Some stars that came to Colombia to race this Classic were Pascal Simon, Greg Lemond, Bernard Hinault and others.

We need a solid 1 week race so maybe one day could be Protour. It is sad that a Country with a richer cycling history and probably bigger prospects that a lot of the lesser cycling countries in Europe, it does not have a Protour race.

the reason european stars came to ride clasico rcn was because it was in june and was perfect preparation for the tour although lucho herrera always made it a goal to win instead of the tour, in which he always came too tired.

the clasico rcn needs to go back to early june and vuelta colombia for august and see if they can attract european teams although perhaps for a pt race colombia should just start a whole new race like in 80 gp pony malta, which was big. so all pt teams can race and maybe 1 or 2 colombian mixed teams as in poland because a big race like rcn would eb a waste with only europeans.

good news though is that colombia are now trying to host the 2015 world championships.

I think racing in Colombia is just too hard for the Europeans in preparation for the TdF. Even Hinault got his *** kicked there (VaC, i guess). Fignon said in his book that the Clasico was hard, but a good preparation for him. But he liked these hard races, most riders today don't.
California, Tour de Luxembourg and then Dauphiné or Suisse suits them better, instead of climbing monsters like La Linea. So they won't come. Could be different if you have big sponsors with high prize money.

That is all there is to say to it ... "it is just too hard for the Europeans"
but then in general ... they don't want to have their as*es kicked by 70 or so unknown cyclists on borrowed material from the bush-bush.

? You can ask them

Q: Now who more got his as* kicked overthere ?
