Terrible TT from Onley
It's not 'a few guys', the majority of current big names started getting big results in year 1 of their pro career, and Widar deliberately did one more U23 year than was necessary so should be more prepared than most big talents turning pro. So I think it's fair to say that if he isn't getting big results this year, the odds of him becoming one of the big names are already quite slim. Doesn't have to be at every race of course, but this Algarve is not impressive at all.Current level is completely irrelevant. Also surprisingly his positioning yesterday was really good, it's apparenlty (according to Visbeek) the main reason why they wanted him to do this race, not to get a result but to try to work at positioning in a high level field.
There's just absolutely no reason to conclude anything after today when he obviously did not try at all. Did you see him coming over the finish? This kid is 20y old, just turned prof, wth are people expecting man. Peoples expectations about young riders has gone to absolute *** due to a few guys immediately performing at a very high level.
It shouldn't matter at this point in his career. But he'll be pressured to go to the Tour and for the podium stories.Seixas peaking too early? We’ll know in April
