There's no thread, so I'm venturing to create one for the first time.
The field for the GC is quite weak: Alan Hatherly, Jan Christen, Paul Double, Alfonso Eulalio, Eddie Dumbar.
Jonathan Milan is the clear favorite for the sprints. Other sprinters: Akcerman, Moschetti, Bauhaus, Jakobsen, Gaviria.

Having to chase Soderqvist and some random misc roulers from other teams in the flat desert with a team full of little climbers is not what you need at this point in the season.

Zero climbers in the front group, so unless the gap goes out the GC impact should be limited.

I guess there's Donovan, but half a minute is not enough for him.

I thought having a MTB background was supposed to help with bike handling. If so, it's a good thing that Christen has one, because otherwise he would be a human bowling ball.

Donovan is backdooring GC, he will get dropped on Skyviews but they always muck about in the last part.

Things just going from bad to worse for UAE, they're going to be sending Marc Soler to San-Remo the way it's going at the moment.

It will be over a minute tho. Zamperini can also climb a bit.
Milan actually lost less than 30 seconds on the Skyview stage when he did it 3 years ago. With bonifications he could actually be a legit threat to GC. I also think that Söderqvist might climb well enough to do a good GC as well. All depending on the final time gap of course.

I agree Skyview doesn't give that big of difference most of the time, but maybe they actually go full full both on the climb and after cause they need to make up time this time. Last couple of years they often just *** around a bit after the climb

but looks like the gap isn't increasing anymore

That's very true. I would expect that as well, the circumstances being very different this year.

How the hell did Christen and his buddies close a minute to the peloton who's closing in on the front group?
