PFP riding this race merely as a homage to Vos' father shows that she's the real GOAT.

Regardless of that, incredible performance by Koch.

On a day that the cycling gods finally gave Van Aert his due, they were especially cruel to Marianne Vos. I hope they make it right, because this is very wrong, dear cycling gods.

I get the sentiment, especially with what Marianne has been through the last month.

But races arent won by sentiment alone.

Whether it was the riders decisions or their DS instructions they got their tactics wrong, got the riders positioning wrong, simply didnt do enough to take victory ultimately and Koch was a rightful and worthy winner imo.

And its been kind of bugging me since alot of the media coverage have taken to frame the result in terms of commiserating that Vos lost, not celebrating that Koch won as if Koch didn't read the script properly and should have backed off maybe her only chance of victory at this race.

It's strange that you only quote the last line of my post, and ignore the first paragraph where I say exactly that: they got their tactics wrong. Because they didn't want the team to win, they wanted Vos to win. In a 2 vs 1 situation you should of course attack one after the other. Don't let it come to a sprint. Certainly if your opponent appears to be the stronger rider and is quite explosive.

I simply think that Koch was the strongest. And She knew Ferrand was devoted to Vos. So She only had to focus on one rider anyway. She got nervous at one point trying to drop Ferrand but at the end She just was the strongest.
