torre still to come no?

The first group are going through sabugueiro. It's a small descent, but part of the climb to Torre which started with around 25 km to go.

Edit: Parrulo beat me to it:p

rui sousa attacks on one of the steeper parts.

forth tavira dropped like i said, he only took 10 secs on the garmin guy in a couple of k's

vitorino setting the pace now.

lmfao rui sousa's attack took 20 secs out of the garmin guy lead

btw very sad news from a couple days ago.

22 year old joni brandão who has been doing a very good volta riding for the portuguese team is considering retiring from cycling because he isn't making any money :(

he also said that to chase his dream of being a cyclist he dropped his studies and now doesn't know what to do with his life.

shame as he seems to be a very talented rider.

i have this feeling that the garmin guy really underestimated this climb =/

4 continental teams with like ten riders each. That's portuguese cyling in a nutshell. I hope Joni can hang on until next year at least. If some of the leaders go out, there should be some room for fresh blood.

The loss of races like the GP CTT Correios and the GP Paredes Rota dos Móveis, or their lowering in status (eg Volta ao Alentejo) has really, really harmed Portuguese cycling. Now, apart from A Volta, what chance do these guys have to prove themselves against the pros, and what money is available for things like intermediate sprints and GPMs?

lead under 2 minutes now and still 10k to go.

this climb is a beast. the vuelta should so use it as a MTF

I was just thinking how the Vuelta could go from somewhere like Salamanca or Cáceres to use this as a MTF. A couple of flat days then a TTT, Bola del Mundo or Monte Abantos as a final mountain stage, and then to Madriad. Great way to finish off the race.
