Juan Ayuso has raced this like he's a 15 year pro
I don't know. He was well back in the pack early on the climb and would have had to waste energy to get back to the front of the chasers. Very likely he could have been up there with Gall and Skjelmose in the end.

After an unlucky classics season, Sheffield is the highest Ineos finisher up a mountain. Not too bad by Pidcock considering he's been away doing MTB since Liege.

Actual good action, was expecting much less given the profile.
Level seems to be low but I'm not complaining. With Remco (and probably Ayuso) below their best form it seems to be a good mix of riders on a similar level that are not afraid to attack or play some poker, looks promising for the upcoming stages.

If anything Ayuso has a tendency to ride to power and let himself get dropped before powering ahead later. Did it at least twice at the Vuelta.

Looks like a training race for Remco. His attack didn't look like much, but it did end up dragging the two chasers to victory.
Hopefully just checking himself and can go for a stage win here later
He probably would be in yellow if he just sat in the entire time and followed wheels.
Though he looks susceptible to being dropped in other mtn stages

I hear you and that makes sense but he should do that from near the front of the group and not the back. It's just wasted energy.

Looks like we have a race on our hands.

I had thought Evenepoels ITT was in line with him being okay but not great, but I had expected a slightly better perfromance from him today based on his ITT.

The final day TT is quite hilly, so I don't think it favors Evenepoel super super much.

this.

best he can hope for is a final TT win like last year. but Kung will be tough to beat.

Beauty of a ride by Skjelmose and the other young guns Ayuso and Cian. All paced their ride perfectly and Skjelmose with his first WT win? Remco wouldn’t have lost time if he didn’t dom for those few km without even a significant gap. He might not be the strongest right now but those tactics don’t help, unless he was really overconfident he’d drop everyone off his wheel.

remco clearly is a strong responder to altitude training. without it his climbing is "ordinary". something I posted not too long ago.

and one of my main reasons why he shouldn't go to the TDF without it. absolutely pointless.
A bit hard for Remco isn't it? He just started his first day of his preperation week in the alps to make sure he is ready for the tour. Today on the program was pacing a climb alone to check his watt/kg status at the beginning of the week.
