No idea, he was a somewhat capable TTer in the junior and u23 ranks. Always seems to be horrible in short, technical opening TTs. Maybe the triathlon background related lack of bike handling skills?

It doesn't really look like he has the legs. He hasn't been dropped yet, but surely he wouldn't be riding like this if he were feeling great.

Not if you are not strong enough to do so. But if Schachmann can hang on, he could probably do something.
