This race might be the best remaining opportunity for a French rider to finally win a WorldTour race this year (after 5 second places).

(Edit: actually the first WorldTour win in almost two years - since the Bretagne classic 2023)

The middle section of the race looks quite a bit harder than last year, good response to almost having a 50-rider bunch sprint for the win last year. UAE will probably be looking to shred the peloton fairly early.

Bad day to be vergard stake lengen. UAE with only 6 potential leaders, I wonder who they will ride for out of wellens, cristen, mcnutly, narveaz, de Toro or covid?

Only one thing is 100% sure: Jan Christen will attack randomly regardless of the situation. Attack when a team mate is up the road, attack when the designated leader is at the back of the peloton for some reason.

Easy UAE win. Looks like they made this parcours even harder again. I don't agree with that being good. Battle between punchers and strong sprinters was always great. But 4000 vertical meters seems a bit much for the strong sprinters. Now the advantage for the top teams will be big.

Also rain expected. Could be carnage (with crashes too).

I agree, the balance was that someone like Cosnefroy could win as well as someone like Viviani. Now it's only someone like Cosnefroy, which reduces the intrigue (but might lead to more aggressive racing, who knows).

The balance is critical for this race, agree, but I'm a bit more worried about team strength. We need a team that can bring attackers back/closer deep in the race. Lotto and Steppers will be stretched pretty quickly most likely.
Anyway morning break is established with 5 riders having 5 m,ins or so.
220kms to go.

Ritter (commenting on the Vuelta) introducing the Danes in the race:

"Tobias Lund, Anthon Charmig, Mikkel Honoré, and the two EF-Education riders Kasper Asgreen, and Michael Valgren."

Uhm... Dennis...

Meanwhile in the race:
Beautiful sun shine, and not much happening.

And now it's pissing down...
