The footage of Purley trying to save Williamson from his burning car is the very last scene of the documentary. I'd never seen it before, it's incredibly tragic and very hard to watch.

It's one of the saddest things I've ever seen. I'm not going to pretend motor racing is safe, we still have deaths to this day, but thank God those days are over.

The whole documentary was a real eye-opener for me. I'm a pretty young guy and I didn't get in to F1 until the late 90s, so I arrived after Senna's death and never saw a race where a driver died. I knew F1 was a dangerous sport but until I watched The Killer Years I had no idea that there was an era where driver (and spectator!) deaths were just a part of the sport and races didn't even stop for fatalities.

Casar or Fedrigo... But that's not the issue. Noone is expecting FdJ to work.

Everyone is playing into Gilbert's hands, just a little annoying. I would love if Gilbert won today, but I wouldn't like to see him handed the win on a silver platter.

Hey, though I mentioned a grudge against Zolder for killing Villeneuve, Gilles died before I was born. I do remember Senna's death quite vividly, and Ratzenberger too. To be honest reading about Ratzenberger's death was a huge WTF because we all felt the sport was safe now. But he was an inexperienced driver (in F1 at least) in a small, low budget team. And then of course Senna, one of the most popular champions and natural talents the sport had ever seen, in the biggest team in the world at the time... suddenly from everybody seeming safe, it felt like nobody was.

And there was Barrichello's crash on the Friday. Horrible weekend.
