In 2005 Danish rider won mountain classification in the Tour de France while a Norwegian rider won the points competition. When you think of the topography of those two countries, you would expect the complete opposite to be more likely to happen.

Indeed it's interesting that there haven't been many great sprinters from Denmark.

Denmark is a nouveau cycling nation. To determine the traditional cycling nation of Scandinavia I ranked the top 10 Scandinavian riders born before 1958 according to PCS points.

KNUDSEN KnutNORWAY400.3
PETTERSSON GöstaSWEDEN280.1
PRIM TommySWEDEN273.1
RITTER OleDENMARK216.1
JOHANSSON BerntSWEDEN209.1
NILSSON Sven-ÅkeSWEDEN144.9
MORTENSEN LeifDENMARK127.4
LAURITZEN Dag-OttoNORWAY103.9

Try writing white letters on a white background.

Denmark

Visibility isn't a requirement.

You didn't enjoy Cavendish' quest for the record and finally achieving it? As the record was from the past and thus dismissible.

I think it's great he broke it, because records are meant to be broken.
Hopefully, it won't be quite as long before someone wins 36 stages.

no, it's the opposite of what you write, cycling has always been one of the most popular danish sports with supporters and tradition but it's just always been incredibly hard for riders to get professional contracts + added to by the federation's ideals about sport as recreation. so many amateur world champions, olympics, peace race and other major races, also the world championships took place in denmark six times in the first like thirty years of the UCI. it was the biggest sports story for years when Ole Ritter was the first rider to go to Italy to ride for a professional team, he was followed closely by newspapers year round and literally the biggest sports star in the sixties.
