In 2005 Danish rider won mountain classification in the Tour de France while a Norwegian rider won the points competition. When you think of the topography of those two countries, you would expect the complete opposite to be more likely to happen.

Indeed it's interesting that there haven't been many great sprinters from Denmark.

Denmark is a nouveau cycling nation. To determine the traditional cycling nation of Scandinavia I ranked the top 10 Scandinavian riders born before 1958 according to PCS points.

KNUDSEN KnutNORWAY400.3
PETTERSSON GöstaSWEDEN280.1
PRIM TommySWEDEN273.1
RITTER OleDENMARK216.1
JOHANSSON BerntSWEDEN209.1
NILSSON Sven-ÅkeSWEDEN144.9
MORTENSEN LeifDENMARK127.4
LAURITZEN Dag-OttoNORWAY103.9
PETTERSSON TomasSWEDEN95.3
SEGERSALL AlfSWEDEN87

Conclusion: Sweden is THE traditional cycling nation of Scandinavia (although Norway has a small claim).

Try writing white letters on a white background.

I don't think anyone forced you do that. It didn't take long for me to make this:

PCS also doesn't list races like the amateur WC, which Leif Mortensen won, that were important back then. Ritter's hour record is obviously not listed either.

Denmark

Visibility isn't a requirement.

You didn't enjoy Cavendish' quest for the record and finally achieving it? As the record was from the past and thus dismissible.

I think it's great he broke it, because records are meant to be broken.
Hopefully, it won't be quite as long before someone wins 36 stages.

no, it's the opposite of what you write, cycling has always been one of the most popular danish sports with supporters and tradition but it's just always been incredibly hard for riders to get professional contracts + added to by the federation's ideals about sport as recreation. so many amateur world champions, olympics, peace race and other major races, also the world championships took place in denmark six times in the first like thirty years of the UCI. it was the biggest sports story for years when Ole Ritter was the first rider to go to Italy to ride for a professional team, he was followed closely by newspapers year round and literally the biggest sports star in the sixties.

Can I ask your opinion? (I'm going to no matter what you say!)

Am I the only one who thinks that for anything below WT, the BYR competition should always be a U23 competition?

Is anyone gonna be out and about when Danmark Rundt rolls around next week? Always a pretty decent race we have, at least when the riders hit the circuit in Aalborg (which they unfortunately don't do this year, so Im out!) and Vejle!
