Btw the Tour of Turkey and Tour of Britain had at 3 great stages at each. Tour of Poland had at least two decent ones.

Tour of Britain would have been in my top 5 week long stage races of the year if there was live coverage.

However, a poll questioning the intelligence of the people who voted for the tour of california would be interesting.

Heres your answer:D

I would like to ask all those jealous anti American haters that voted NO for a big favor.

PLEASE DO NOT WATCH, DISCUSS, READ ANYTHING RELATED TO ToC AND DO NOT COMMENT ON ToC.

Thank You!

PS I voted Yes because it is a good race with variety of stages. Nothing boring like TDU, Tour of Poland, Tour of England, Turkey, Tours of Arabia, India etc
Are you suffering from the long term effects of the 1960s?

You are clearly bored Hitch.

I understand though. It's still a long way till March, but we will get warmed up soon.

This poll is a no-brainer and you will see a result that you wanted to see.

yeah we seem to be clutching at straws for threads... :D

obviously P-N is a better race, but ToC was ok this year, so was ToB actually. But yeah... big talking point !

Did you even watch any of the races you just mentioned because Tour of Britain was a great race and it could be said that it was a much better race then TOC. Also races like TOB, TDU are going for a different style of race compared to the TOC. I think within the next 5 years you will find that most of the world's top sprinters will be starting up their seasons at the TDU.

And also the TdP is a great race to watch try it sometime before you decide to open your mouth about races that you have not even watched.

P.S who would have thought that a Poll about a Poll could cause so much argument but then again it is off season and we need something to talk about

this will probably make it even less entertaining. (IMO)

The TdP is pretty entertaining race, but is that because not many 'bigger' riders go, and thus the race is not at all controlled (by a powerhouse team)

So if you don't think California was in the top 10 races of the year, you're an anti-American hater? I hate Americans because I thought Paris-Nice was a better race? Do I hate Germans cos I thought the Niedersachsenrundfahrt was a rubbish race too?

In that case, can I ask you anti-French haters who voted that Paris-Nice didn't merit a slot in the countdown instead of California PLEASE DO NOT WATCH, DISCUSS, READ ANYTHING RELATED TO ASO-RUN EVENTS AND DO NOT COMMENT ON ASO-RUN EVENTS.

That might make this forum a more pleasant place to be.

Sorry, ACF, I had to do it because of the double irony of you picking up others on their poor English, then making a grammatical error in the post in which you acknowledged that it was irony :D

(to be fair, this correction is about as pedantic as they come)

That's happening this year - Cavendish, Greipel, Farrar, Chicchi, McEwen, Haedo, Rojas, Henderson, Davis, Kristoff, Brown.
That's the best sprinter's field you'll see outside the TdF.

I'd argue the Worlds too, and probably Milan-San Remo.

I've already said that a decent poll, expecting its voters to be knowledgeable, shouldn't need a shortlist.

But once the decision has been made to have one, then the pollsters' aim should be to ensure that as many voters as possible have the chance to vote for their favourite. By that criteria, the inclusion of the ToC is entirely vindicated.

One might argue that others on the shortlist did not deserve their place on the list, and would have been better replaced by Paris-Nice, but why would it have been a good thing to disenfranchise 6.9 % of the voters?

The wisdom in those voters choosing ToC is a different issue.

Yeah, maybe. But I think some teams may back punchers rather than second tier sprinters at MSR. And the Worlds all depends on the allocation of team numbers.

But the TDU is certainly looking like a big sprinters showdown. And as a sprint fan, I'm looking forward to it. (You hate sprints, so I imagine you'd rather look at naked sumo wrestling with extra oil)

You could argue that would make the race less entertaining but with the terrain relatively flat their isn't alot of options to make the course harder and attract other big name riders other then the fast men of peloton. ( If anyone does know some hills that the TDU would be able to use to make the race more interesting please post it because I would be intersted to see what sort of race it could become

With your second point I entirely agree with you that a even playing field is what makes TdP entertaing. But with cycling still developing in Australia the races organisers seem to think that the bigger the names racing the race the better the race will be but as the TdP proves this is not always the case

The wintersports season is still going on. The season starts with the Volta ao Algarve.

They don't need to use more climbs or make the race harder. They just have to do a better job of placing the hills they have. Don't make the race harder, but instead of having the hills 50-60km from the finish and a flat run in, place one of them in the final 10km or something. With Willunga, finish on part of the flat bit around the top or immediately at the base of the descent rather than having them ride back into the town, meaning that even a group of elite climbers and a rookie phenomenon like they had last year, could only manage to gain 2 seconds on the sprinters.

Numbers don't lie. Tour of California is bigger than Paris-Nice and many other stage races on the World Tour. For example you can view on the front page of CyclingNews: "Team NetApp to ride Amgen Tour of California". Only the Giro and Tour get as much attention.

The poll also confirms I have been right all the time - Tour of California is the future... You can't ignore it anymore ;)

But I agree that the race could've been better. Big Bear was not good.

Which numbers would those be, the ones that gave the Giro a crushing victory over ATOC, or the 58-7 vote in favor of Paris-Nice on here?

Team NetApp: Who?

Seems that your future for cycling also needs a new sponsor.

I have high hopes for Team NetApp, and really want to see them succees and do well.

But the fact of the matter is, they won't be doing Paris-Nice because they're not a big enough team.

Or any other serious European race, for that matter.
