I was watching clip from the 2004 TdF today and one of them, while calling the race, said Kloden was from France.

Today Phil was talking about Andy while the video was showing Frank. I mean, it was a guy with the Luxembourg RR jersey. Pretty easy call by anyone, but Phil botched it. He is starting to remind me of Pat Summerall at the end of his career. They guy barely knew where he was or what was happening.

Loved the comment by Phil as Popo and LA entered the last stretch of pave', and Armstrong started to pull ahead of Popo. "Just look at the power of Armstrong!", he cried, after Popo had literally ridden himself into the ground for the last 15k trying to reconnect Armstrong with Contador.

Tough job pulling away from a man who's tongue is dragging on his chainring...

I mostly agree with Paul usually saving Phil but occasionally he blows his load over armstrong as well. Perfect example. Watch the clip and just notice how much he mentions how good Armstrong is

Sluurp, sluuuuurp! :D

That is a very memorable moment in the 2003 TdF. The amount of luck in that situation is mind-numbing. If that happens anywhere else, Lance goes down.

As much as Phil slips and slurs and mixes up andy and frank, he had the line of the tour IMHO

after Frankie Andreu gave us nothing yet again in his report on stage cobbles "Frankie actually told us something we didn't know" amen Phil

for a change

no ****. Has this Tuul Frankie A said anything worth cobble dust on OLN and VS this past 5 years or so?

Time Trial Bikes go really fast.... thanks frankie.

I would Pedal hard on the cobbles... really?

he is best waiting for Lance to throw him a bone

and then there is Robbie Ventura. dude is living on expresso beans

Well, if he's so bad, maybe the only job requirement is finishing the Tour 10 times. You should apply for the job...

I like listening to Jonathan Vaughters. He seems to tell it the way that it is. Too bad he isn't a full-time commentator.

Was that just before or after he exclaimed how Armstrong has "always loved the cobbles and done so well on them"? For the life of me I can't imagine what Liggett was referring to.

Paul and Phil have truly lost it, they missed Lance's flat, Schleck's crash, Contador getting held up in the crash plus multiple mis-named riders.

Then to top it off we had that tool Tomalaris enlighten us with his Vino-Contador team infighting conspiracy theories at the end of the stage.

I don't understand why folks around here keep torturing themselves by listening those 2 idiots-there are options out there-like Eurosport,or using the mute bottom- or even better, listen the race in another language you understand(if you do).

It is called 55" HD. I have to find out a way to mute and put the Eurosport broadcast on.:)

The first bike change for Chavanel was classic Phil: "Well I HOPE that was his team car!" seconds after the car with the giant blue "QuickStep" enters the screen and pulls up beside Sylvain.

I noticed that too. I thought the same thing. How could Sherwen not see the huge QUICK STEP on the side of the car? Those two are knuckleheads.

On the pre-race show Ligget claimed that he first met Amrstrong at Paris-Roubaix and that Armstrong said he loved riding over the cobbles. I seem to recall Armstrong refusing to ride P-R and saying that the race was barbaric. Did Armstrong ever ride P-R?

I have nothing worth adding but to say this thread is absolutely hilarious, Ive laughed non stop since page 1. I dont mind listening to Phil after watching the recap of the 09" tour that just ended where i think they made mention that AC caused Lances cancer. The commercials are the best part, the fat guy riding lances bike is so funny, cause that was lance's body 2 months ago and they pasted someone head onto it. ( I tried maybe too hard but the commercials really are funny)

France2 commentator said yesterday that Armstrong started P-R once but DNF.

I got a kick out of Jean René Godard (bumbling commentator for France Télévisions and Lance fanboy) who, while commenting a summary of stage 2, said that Cancellera was probably discussing strategy with Riis and Kim Anderson. Guess he didn't see the headline news that Anderson was fired from Saxo Bank a few weeks ago because he was involved in starting up a new team. What a tool Godard is (though by all accounts he is a total professional compared to Ligett and Sherwen).

Laurent Jalabert is a superb commentator, a real pleasure to listen to.

Laurent Fignon is doing commentary again this year despite the advanced stage of his cancer. Very painful to listen to as he is obviously very ill and has to make a huge effort to speak. He is courageous for being there.

The worst thing about P&P is that they only talk about a few riders. It's not only LA ball licking, Matti Breschel did heaps of work today and they only commented on Voight and O'Grady. Even when Breschel was taking up the whole screen they were talking about O'Grady.

I much prefer Keenan, who recognizes all the riders and comments on anyone who is working or animating the race. He also doesn't come out with brainless drivel like "I hope that bike was from the team car" or "will Geriant Thomas be in yellow?" when Thomas is riding with the guy in 2nd place on GC. But even if they feel the need to persist with this circus act, couldn't they at least mention the names of more than 20 riders?

It's time for both of them to go. IMHO Wimbledon coverage improved when they got McEnroe in, the previous commentators played tennis when long trousers were obligatory! I once heard Nick Faldo do a very brief bit of guest commentatory for the BBC, he made Peter Allis the normal commentator sound like an idiot.

Whats pathetic is how they rarely can tell the difference between the peleton and the breakaway group. Hey Guys, the groups with only 4 or 5 guys are probably not the peleton.

I remember them showing a group of 5 riders, 5 different teams in a breakaway and Phil kept calling it the "front of the peleton here working hard to lead them up the mountain". 1 of the 5 riders was Magnus Backstedt, who is only the biggest rider of the decade. First off, the same dang 4-5 riders have been off the front of the peleton all day, so maybe you should realize that you see these guys, its the break. HOw the Hell can you not tell the rider is Big Maggie?

Number 3, In what planetary alignment would Magnus ever lead a peleton up a mountain. Magnus couldn't outclimb a drunk parapelegic turtle turned on its back over a Double Cheesberger.

They probably haven't got a clue who Matti is. :p

My sympathies, Americans - sad to hear you are still stuck with such lousy commentary. :(
