Aero Helmets

Wow..aren't this seasons lot amazing?
Nearly all have got got rid of the big tail fin
Most have smooth surfaces.

But the one from Eurocar looks like half a green golf ball with duck tape on it.

And (In prologue Paris - Nice) it won!!!!

In general, helmet designs are taking a worringly bad direction.

That's all.

+1
This season I am only rooting for riders with "normal" helmets. The worst ones must be the Giro aero helmets that BMC (and Blanco?) use for regular stages. Just awful...

pretty sure its Duct Tape, used in heating and cooling ducts. In any case, its hideous. Minimum they could do is match the colours.

I don't too much mind the road giro ones, I like it better than the plastic caps they put on a normal helmet like Sky in the tour or Lotto with their clear ones.

Why in the ever living f*&k are the Euskaltel riders riding with their helmets backwards?....wait, you mean they are on correctly? WTF is up with that?

I like some of them but dislike the ones that look like a cover. I like the new Giro and almost bought one when I broke my Ionos but it was not yet available so I went AEON a traditional helmet. Imagine I call it a traditional design but that really is a hairnet style.
I have been getting over my distain for BMX and Skater style helmets. It appears that has primed me for the Aero look.
I don't want to get a visit from the fashion police now.

The giro one looks like a potty esp in rabofail colours

How humiliating for Phil that in his WC year his sponsors demand he wears a potty on his head with rainbow duct tape on it :(

Libertine generally I agree on skin suits, except bouhanni's that just wouldnt look as good if it were jersey and shorts

Master50 - can I assume you are not an espoir ;) ?

****pots look good on 17 year old dirt jumpers but on old guys like us you will need to be able to dish it out to get away with the Giro aero ( maybe with the visor if you were owning a TT on it on a road bike you would look cool )

I did think the Giro one would be good for commuting in winter then double up as a TT helmet but I am not totally sold on there being a lot of gain?

Definitely not espoir:( . I think they are better looking than those jett style track helmets! Track riders like ugly helmets too.
I liked platform shoes a lot earlier than my peers too. I own a sport touring motorcycle instead of a cruiser. Just saying I am my own fashion critic. I am warming up to the look of them right now. I like the cooling technology in my motorcycle helmet.
I still think a cycling cap and a hairnet is the look. All helmets are a scar in comparison. How ugly helmets are has been shifting since the day they first became mandatory. At this point I still have only seen them in pictures and TV

with a very few exceptions, road helmets all looked very much the same until now and had been doing so for a while and a new proposition was long overdue. i like all those new helmets. my favourite one is the scott (orica-green edge) and second place is between the uvex (fdj.com, argos-shimano) and the new casco (rusvelo, la pomme marseille)

i intend to try a few of those when they become available

at the moment i am using the ekoi one (ag2r) as it was the first on the market. i wouldn’t say i can feel the increased aerodynamics but it’s really, really good against the cold, as it’s been really cold lately, and it’s also really good against the rain, and i’ve felt more comfortable doing long hours when facing wind, cold and rain combined

I realise that the Specialized Evade has more ventilation than the Giro Air Attack, but I don't understand why they are being worn in the middle of summer during mountain stages.

Will Contador be wearing one on Alpe d'Huez?
