yep, I hope that was ironic. Seriously though, people should relax.

They can´t. The moralizers must have their outrage, and put Albasini on their shit list. Guilty or not doesn´t matter. A big war crime happened, or was in the making... or not.

A strange one but up to Reza if he wants to follow it up.
No, sorry, it's not that simple. It's very common for the victim of something to not want to make a big fuss about it, because they didn't choose to be a victim and have no desire to be in the spotlight for it. The solution is to focus on Albasini instead of on Reza, not to say everything's fine and we're all friends in the peloton.

That makes you an racist against the swiss. ;)

Xenophobic. Swiss is a nationality, not a race.

It's tough because in half the cases the victim keeps it hush-hush and in the other half they lie, like Patrick Vieira being racist to Mihajlovic, then getting angry when Mihajlovic (like the racist idiot he is) responded in the same way.

At this point it's going to be near impossible to know what was actually said.

The Russians slagging of Grivko for me just as bad if not worse.

They what?

To all of you people going Albasini needs to be punished and it's not okay for them to simply move on! have you never said or done something stupid in a moment of anger, only to regret it and appologise?

Nothing like this, no. Sudden anger doesn't make you say things that have nothing to do whatsoever with who you are, it just brings out what you *really* are.

Everybody of them did. But not such a serious crime as Albasini allegedly did. A life ban would be not enough. For such capital crimes like the one Albasini allegedly did, there is only one solution: prison.

yup, all swiss are racists.

It was hyperbolic of course.
But still, I've lived in Switzerland, I have many Swiss colleagues, and yes, the way a surprisingly high number of Swiss (from rural areas) regard foreigners in not a good way. Which is illustrated by some shocking slogans and billboards used by the SVP - the biggest political party in Switzerland.

This thread really is drawing in some hilarious sentences from both sides.

I was trying to be ironic. That´s all that´s left to "fight" against the overtaking-everything political correct moralizers who just found another easy target/victim: Albasini from the bad bad country Switzerland...

Nah, that's nonsense.

Sure people might lose control when angry and say stuff honestly they otherwise wouldn't, but people also just say stupid stuff they regret later on when angry. Just because it's stupid racist stuff doesn't mean it's suddenly his *true* self.

Especially because he didn't start talking about some racist idea or anything, according to the report, but he was just name calling. Of course that's unacceptable and sure, he might be a racist, but for all we know we just got angry and said something stupid.

You keep blaming everything on "political correctness". There's a difference between deeming absolutely everything offensive to one group or another, and saying overt racism shouldn't be tolerated.

Ever been in Africa? You´d wonder what people "really" are there then. I guess the moralizers would like to nuke those countries if they knew what real rascism goes on there.

People cool down, and come down from your high podests... Albasini is just a bike racer, a really good one BTW. Leave it at that. If you wanna fight the bad things, go to eastern Ukraine or Palestine and help people there. Reza is fine. Guaranteed.

I don't believe you'd say something in the spur of the moment that wasn't there somewhere in the first place. Internalized, hidden, repressed, maybe, but it was there.

Did I say anything about Africans not being racist? No? Then shut up.

Just to break this little myth here: there is no paradox in being intolerant against intolerance.

But it's just name calling and swear words. That's about the most devoid of meaning you can use language. In Dutch some people use 'cancer' and several other diseases as a swear word. Doesn't mean they actually wish the person their angry with get's cancer. (btw, it's generally considered to be one of the most unacceptable swear words in Dutch, but it's still fairly wide spread in some area's). When people say 'goddammit', they don't mean they actually want God to damn whatever they're swearing at. When somebody get's angry with a black person and says 'dirty negro', for sure it's unacceptable, but it doesn't mean he hates black people.

My grandfather always used a rude term to refer to Germans (I guess he developed this habit during WWII). But he got along just fine when he actually met any of them. No racism there whatsoever despite his somewhat racist language.

Just saying, people don't always mean what they say, especially when they say it in the heat of the moment.

I guess everyone says stupid things every now and then that they later on regret, but this is about as stupid as it gets, close to Mel-Gibson-stupid

1.) You don´t need to live in Switzerland if you don´t like it.
2.) Posting something out of context is offensive against the people of Switzerland, living in rural ares. It´s highly xenophobic.
3.) Where is your outrage against Simbabwe, since you started to hit out against countries?

Why shall I shut up when Albasini and Switzerland is thrown to the mud? I won´t shut up...

According to the reports he called him a "dirty n!gger." Now as he wasn't able to convinsingly demonstrate otherwise, the racist lable sticks.

And it has nothing to do with politically correct, or inocent until prooven guilty (as nobody is being put on trial for which, in this case, he needs to cite defamation against him and he doesn't), but taking responsibility for one's own idocy.

Says who? Link?

What I read in the dailies. Now, as I said, since he didn't cry scandal, but simply said he was "misunderstood" (now that's politically correct) and was willing to "explain himself" to the offended, rather than attacking him for defamation to me says it all. Namely, he called him a "dirty n!gger." End of story.

Doesn't surprise me in the least though.
